Mr. George B. Donus presents
his latest book "BLACK OLIVES
AND WHITE CHEESE," an
entertaining account of the
beautiful isle of Lemnos in the
Aegean Sea, to Mrs. Edith
Jackson, Director of the Lyn-brook
Public Library, w'th
Mayor Francis X. Becker looking
on approvingly. George Donus is
the author of a number of books
among which are "A BOOK OF
POEMS," "liEFLECTIONS OF
CANDLELIGHT" - based on
sermons of Rabbi Harold
Saperstein of Temple Emanu-El.
Lynbrook, "REPORT
MACAO" and others.
He has also written a
newspaper column "FOOD FOR
THOUGHT" which has appeared
in Atlantic, National Herald and
other papers, and is presently at
work writing "NEW SEAGULLS
OVER THE AEGEAN."
In addition to being one of our
more prolific local authors -
writing at least 1,500 words a day,
Mr. Donus is headmaster of the
Academy of Lynbrook which he
founded'in 1958.
MARGIOTTA RECEIVES "SERVICE TO YOUTH" AWARD: At a
recent New York State Young Republican State Convention, which
was attended by over 400 delegates, Nassau GOP Chairman,
Assemblyman Joseph M. Margiotta, center, is presented with the
"Service to Youth" award by President Joseph L. Forstadt, right, as
Vice President Ardyth Young looks on. Margiotta received the award
for his consistent and strong support of Young Republicans and for his
encouragement^ of-youth to participate in the American political
process.
Citizen
Of The Year
In February Jeanette Smillie
was selected "Citizen of the
Year" by the East Rockaway
Kiwanis Club. She will receive
the "James Brannigan Award as
Citizen of the Year" at a dinner in
her honor which will be held May
8th. at Carl Hoppl's in Baldwin.
Kiwanis dignitaries will be there
and will join the Hon. Francis T.
Purcell in paying tribute to this
most outstanding citizen. She has
been the dispatcher for the East
Rockaway Fire Department for
more than 25 years dedicating
almost a lifetime to a service
which has touched the lives of
almost everyone in our com-munity.
Michael Pizzino, Chairman of
the dinner committee, extends a
cordial invitation to all residents
of the Village to join the Kiwanis
Club in saying thank you to
Jeanette Smille for "Sharing

Motor Vehicle Branches Closed April 17th
Nassau County Clerk Harold
W. McConnell announced today
that the three branch offices of
the Nassau County Motor Vehicle
Bureau will be closed on
Tuesday, April 17th in ob-servance
of the Jewish Passover.
County Clerk McConnell said
that the main office of the Motor
Vehicle Bureau on Privado Road,
Westbury will be open, however.
The branch offices are located
at:
144 W. Merrick Road, Freeport
Mid Island Shopping Center,
Hicksville 266 Merrick Road,
Lynbrook
