Federal Civil Defense grant for
an emergency communications
system, County Executive Ralph

headquarters in Garden City, will
enable the center to be in 24-hour,
seven-day-a-week contact with
all fire department facilities in
Nassau, as well as adjacent
jurisdictions.
The county executive said the
system also will enable thie
county to establish an emergency
broadcasting system linking the
county with the Long Island
Lighting Co., the Long Island
Railroad, the N.Y. Telephone
Co., local government units,
departments of public works and
health and security agencies.

Board Meeting
By Annette Ling
The Board of Trustees of the
Incorporated Village of Lynbrook
held a regular meeting at the
Village Hall. 1 Columbus Drive
on Monday evening, Nov. 6, 1972
at 8:00 p.m. The Board approved
the Minutes of Oct. 2, 1972.
In a letter received from the
L y n b r o o k P a t r o l m e n 's
Benevolent Assoc. written by
President Robert Baselin, the
Board was asfced that Grievance
No. 3 be withdrawn and this was
done.
Trustee Bill O'Brien gave an
excellent report on the results to
date of the meeting held at a
Nassau county level by
TAVASNAC, which comprises 60
villages and the City of Long
Beach. The name stands for
Town, Village Aircraft Noise
Abatement Assoc. and explained
that this group had been working
closely with Town of Hempstead
Supervisor Francis T. Purcell
and had discovered that of the
4,000 jets now in use, most all of
them will still be regular carriers
until 1985 and the cost of in-stalling
anti-noise equipment in
the planes would be enormous
and quite prohibitive. Efforts in
U. S. Congress have been made
by Congressman Wydler to in-troduce
a bill to curb the noise.
Trustee O'Brien stated that this
hard-working Committee had
decided that New York State
legislation would be far more
easily obtained and that the effort
would be made to place a curfew
on jet planes from 11:00 p.m.
until 7:00 a.m. so that people
living in adjacent villages or
homes could get some sleep.
Village Clerk Joseph Vitelli
opened sealed Bids for two new
pieces of needed D.P.W.
equipment including a mobile
street sweeper and a sanitation
truck and four bids in all were
received. They will be turned
over to the Supt. of Public Works,
Reggie Pilling for further care-ful
study.
John Martinggale of Lynbrook High School is presented with his
Award for Athletic Prowess from Manager Barry Van Name of
National Bank of North America.
Edward Rudnic of Lynbrook High School is shown receiving his
Award as Outstanding Athlete for Manager Barry Van Name of
National Bank of North America.
Lynbrook Police Chief Walter
Waring received the permission
of the Board to purchase needed
Winter and Fall police uniforms
for the Lynbrook force as per-mitted
in the budget.
Trustee Lawrence Florio gave
a fine report on the Nassau
County Police Dept. Workshop
where the techniques of law
enforcement were demonstrated.
The Nassau County Police are
completing an underground
communications room which
should be completed by May.
1973. Lynbrook will soon become
a part of the system of dialing 911
for any police emergency, but it
was pointed out by Chief Waring
that it is still better for rapid
response to call the local Lyn-brook
Police at Lv 9-3300.
The Board approved a Capital
Note Renewal for the cost of
installation of special lighting at
ff4 Baseball Diamond at the Gries
Park Recreation Center and it
was pointed out that the rental
fee of about $22 per hour for use of
the field for night games was
producing needed revenue for the
Recreation Commission.
Village Attorney Jay F. Korth
will look into the matter of the
actual ownership and Title to the
property underneath the Long
Island Railroad Trestle which
Lynbrook would like to meter for
parking purposes.
Village Attorney Jay F. Korth
also informed the Board that a
person driving a stolen vehicle
who had hit a pole and badly
damaged traffic control signals
at the Five Corners was near
death in the hospital and was not
covered by any insurance him-self.
The accident occurred on
July 5, 1972 and caused an
estimated damage for pole
replacement etc. of $3,480.
The Building Dept. will use
four surplus Lynbrook Library
bookshelves for record files and
the Nathan Hale Senior Citizens
