Thorp Haik P.S.C. Delay
Of Water Rate Increase
A decision announced this week
by the Public Service Com-mission
to suspend until March
28,1973, a- rate increase schedule
proposed by the Long Island
Water Corporation, was ap-plauded
by Assemblyman John S.
Thorp, Jr., who described the
decision as another victory for
Nassau's hard - pressed
homeowners.
Thorp, who as waged an
ongoing fight against further rate
increases affecting homeowners
in his Assembly District, has
appeared at public hearings in
the past two years to express his
dissatisfaction to the P.S.C.
"I am pleased, "Thorp said,
"that the Public Service Com-mission
has deferred action on
this unwarranted increase in
water charges that would ad-versely
affect homeowners in the
communities of Valley Stream,
Lynbrook, Lakeview and
Oceanside.
"I will continue to give this
matter my close attention to
make sure that this unjustified
raise in water rates, which are
already too high, is not granted,"
Ttjorp said.

The Fast Pitch League was sponsored by the Lynbrook Recreation
Commission and proved most successful. The teams in the league
included Islfend Automatics, Bruce Air Conditioners, and Pellegrini
Caterers.
More Money For
Area Residents-
Residents of the Lynbrook,
Malverne, and East Rockaway
areas will receive $205,000 more
in their social security checks in

A.A.H.P. Accepts
Lynbrook Podiatrist
Dr. Arthur Crystal, Lynbrook
Podiatrist, has just been ac-cepted
in the American
Association of Hospital
Podiatrists. Dr. Louis J. Arancia,
National Executive Director,
announced that at the annual
meeting of the A.A.H.P. Dr.
Crystal was voted into this h<Hior
society.
Dr. Crystal has been serving as
a Podiatrist in the Nassau County
Medical Center in the Diabetic,
Orthopedic and Rheumatology
Clinics.

additional moneys result from
the recent 20% increase in
benefits which is effective with
benefits due for September, 1972,
payable in October.
There are, at present, 7630
beneficiaries in the area, Mr.
Kovel added. They are receiving
checks because of retirement,
disability, or death of a person
whose earnings were covered
under social security, and include
payments to wives, widows,
parents, and children of these
workers. The average increase
will be $25.
Mr. Kovel concluded by saying
that the incr'ease would be
automatically included in the
checks. No action is r ^ u i r e d by a
beneficiary to receive his in-crease.
