Poet Offl'ee, Ljmbrook, N.Y. LY 3-1300 THE FAMILY NEWSPAPER WedMtday, August 9,1972 lOf
Lynbrook Man
Arrested In Shooting
Charged with assault, burglary
and possession of a firearm, 24-
year-old Jerry Schwab of Lyn-brook
was arrested last Thursday
during the early morning hours.
As reconstructed by the police,
the events which led to Schwab's
shooting Edubidge Peralta of
Rockville Centre, a dishwasher
employed at the Howard Johnson
on Sunrise Hwy. in Lynbrook,
were as follows:
At approximately 4:30 A.M.,
John Moon, manager of the
restaurant, and Peralti^ said they
were getting ready to lock up
after cleaning the premises which
had been closed for business at
midnight.
Schwab maintained that he had
come in (the front door had not
yet been locked) "just to have an
ice cream soda." However,
according to police, the manager
and the dishwasher declared that
they had surprised him trying to
make off with two cases of
chicken.
Schwab said he would pay for
the chickens if the police were not
called. Moon and Peralta ap-proached
him, whereupon, the
police said, Schwab shot Peralta
in the chest with a .38 automatic.
Although wounded, Peralta aided
the manager in holding Schwab
until the police arrived.
Lynbrook patrolmen Edward
Raney and Joseph Laurian made
the arrest. Peralta is in South
Nassau Communities Hospital,
Oceanside, where his condition
was termed fair.

At this, the midpoint of 1972, a
most regrettable, though
inevitable, occasion must be
acknowledged; and that is the
impending end of my service
over the last ten years, first as a
New York State Senator and now
as United States Congressman, to
the people of Lynbrook.
This Fall's campaign, thbugh
not yet begun, will find my re-a
p p o r t i o n e d Congressional
Destrictexcluding Lynbrook, and
after a decade of service to the
people of your community, the
rupture of these ties will not win
easy acceptance by either,
myself, my staff or my family.
My office will, of course,
continue to serve the people of
Lynbrook until next January, and
I stand ready tb assist you in any
way possible until that time. If
nothing else, I have tried to build
a reputation for prompt and
effective service to the con-stituencies
I have represented
since my public life began.
I sincerely hope that the people
of Lynbrook will continue their
support for my efforts, and that
the friendships made over the
last decade will not fade in the
face of the unfortunate
dissolution of our political part-nership.
Lynbrook, it's been a pleasure.
Thank you again, a thousand
times, for your years of loyal
support.
Sincerely,
Norman F. Lent
Member of Congress
