Mur-Lees Swept
Doubleheader
The MUR-LEE'S Baseball Club
of Lynbrook, the weatherman
finally permitting them to play
once again, swept a doubleheader
from Glendale on Sunday July 2,
to run their record to 11 wins - 2
losses, and now are firmly en-trenched
in first place in the Stan
Musial League.
The MUR-LEE'S rolled to a 5-0
first game victory and then
swamped Glendale in the second
game by a score of 8-2. In the fj'rst
game, Billy Williams, (now 3-1)
was the winning pitcher, striking
out 5, walking 2 and giving up but
5 hits. Hitting star of the game
was Ron Davies of Adelphi, who
went 3 for 3 including a double
and one of his longest home runs
ever, while driving in 4 runs. The
MUR-LEE'S won the second
game on the combined 6 hit
pitching of Pete Martin,
(Bucknell University) and Tom
DeBeche Jr. who previously
played at St. Agnes. During this
game. Ken Shapiro, (Long Beach
High - Cornell University)
delivered the key base hit to drive
in 2 runs in the MUR-LEE'S come
from behind 5 run 6th inning
rally. Richie Loche of Nassau
Community College went 3 for 4
including an RBI to increase his
team leading total to 15.
Throughout the campaign thus
far the MUR-LEE'S have had a
combination of strong hitting,
(team batting average .307 and
slugging percentage .438) and
phenomenal pitching (staff ERA
