Levy Seeks
Escalators
For
Lynhrook
R.R. Station
Senator Norman J. Levy (R-Long
Beach) announced today
that he, Lynbrook Mayor Francis
Becker and Valley Stream Mayor
W. Tom Ward had met with Dr.
William Ronan, Chairman of the
Metropolitan Transit Authority,
to discuss installation of
escalators for the Lynbrook and
Valley Stream Railroad stations.
Senator Levy said he had
arranged this meeting with Dr.
Ronan after a series of
discussions with Mayors Becker
and Ward and conversations with
commuters at the Lynbrook and
Valley Stream stations.
Levy said, "I personally ob-served
many commuters at both
stations experiencing extreme
hardship climbing the stairs to
board Long Island trains at these
elevated stops, and the escalators
would definitely obviate this
problem."
Mayors Becker and Ward
stated, "We had serious
discussions of the proposal and
the means to finance the
escalators with Dr. Ronan, and a
f u t u r e meeting was agreed
upon."
Senator Levy concluded, "I am
hopeful that the meeting with Dr.
Ronan will lead to the installation
of these escalators for Lynbrook
and Valley Stream."

Personalities
bv Annette Ling
One of the most dynamic,
magnetic and interesting new
personalities to arrive in our
midst here in Lynbrook is Mr.
Thomas L. Tanacredi, Manager
of the new Lynbrook branch of
the Chemical Bank and Trust
Company at 700 Merrick Rd.
He was born in Bensonhurst,
Brooklyn to the late Thomas
Tanacredi and his beloved
mother, Elizabeth, still happily
living in Brooklyn and not
anxious to leave her old friends
and neighborhood.
He is a graduate of Public
School 97, Junior High School 128
and Lafayette High School.
He graduated from Santa Ana
Junior College in Santa Ana,
California and won a complete
scholarship to University of
Southern California when the
deep desire to return home where
his roots were suddenly hit him
and he came home instead of
continuing on at UCLA in
California. Perhaps it was a case
of once a Brooklyn boy, always a
Brooklyn boy or just his deep
devotion to his family and
homesickness. He had majored in
Business Administration and
Banking at Santa Ana and upon
his return home in Oct., 1952, he
went to work for the Corn Ex-change
Bank as a Teller Trainee
until the bank was eventually
taken over by the Chemical Bank
and Trust Company after many
changes and mergers. He was
Branch Manager of the Chemical
Bank in Brooklyn when he
requested this transfer to Lyn-brook.
Oct. has always been an im-portant
month in his life when
important changes were made in
his general life plan. He was
married to the former Joan
LoRocca of Brooklyn on Oct. 25,
1958.
The couple have three lovely
children. Thomas, age 12 is the
oldest, and then Robert, age 10,
and the darling of the whole
family, little Jill Elizabeth, age
5. They have lived on Bismark
Ave. in Valley Stream for the
past few years and love it very
much.
Joan LoRocca Tanacredi, his
attractive and devoted wife is a
great gourmet cook, specializing
in all types of international dishes
with the very best of Italian
cookery as her particular
specialty. It is a tribute to Tom
that he keeps so fit with such an
excellent cook and wife.
The Tanacredis like to vacation
as a family and generally like to
vacation in the mountains en-joying
romps and walks,
swimming and fishing with their
children.

Friday night, September 24, 1971 was opening night for the Lynbrook Re-publican
Party Campaign Headquarters on Atlantic Avenue and Merrick
Road. A large crowd vied for seats and standing room. Candidates and
local dignitaries were on hand for the festivities. At the ribbon cutting cere-monies
were: (L to R) Kurt Arndt, Lynbrook Village Trustee; Nat Bennett,
Hempstead Town Clerk; Mrs. William Robinson, President of the Women s
Lynbrook Republican Club, cutting the ribbon; Councilman Muscarella;
Judge Robbins and Robert Livingston Jr., Receiver of Taxes for the Town
of Hempstead.
