Mrs. Clara Stuart, wife of Mr.
Walter Stuart of Westminister
Rd., Lynbrook was voted the
most outstanding Senior Citizen
of the Year by the Lynbrook
Week Committee and honored at
a performance of the Vaudeville
Show and Musicale given for the
Senior Citizens at Lynbrook High
School this past Wednesday
evening during "Lynbrook
Week." Mayor Francis X. Becker
gave her a Citation from the
Village of Lynbrook and a
beautiful plaque for her out-standing
and selfless quiet ser-vice
on behalf of her neighbors
and fellow residents through the
years. She impressed everyone
there with her humility, and
gentle charm and complete
surprise that she should be so
honored.
Clara was born in South
Brooklyn to the late Christine and
Elmer Alfson and is the last
surviving member of her own
family. Shewas the youngest, the
baby of her family with deceased
brothers and one sister. She had
four brothers and the one sister,
but through her own marriage is
the head of a wonderful family
which includes one Great
Grandchild.
She attended public schools,
graduating from Erasmus Hall
High School studying a business
course and did some secretarial
and office work before her early
Clara and Walter Stuart
marriage, soon after graduation.
Clara and her beloved husband,
Walter were married on Sept. 17,
1919 a total of 52 years and few
couples live to celebrate their
Golden Wedding plus extra years
in this day and age. She'and her
family have been Lynbrook
residents for 41 years at the same
address.
Her husband, Walter , a retired
Bell Systems Employee of the
Bell Laboratories has also been
on the staff of a previous Village
administration as a Multiple
Dwelling Inspector and is equally
well known and liked in Lynbrook
and this whole area.
Their daughter, Ruth, now
Mrs. William Scuper of Islip has
two children, Billie June, now
Mrs. Robert Kleinhans made
