Dear Mayor TOite:
I was very pleased to have an opportunity to
visit the PIC DESIGN property with you, Mr. Rein-hard,
members of the East Rockaway Library
Board, Friends of the Library and Mr. Jacob-sen,
the library director.
After careful review of the space available in
these facilities, I would say that they could be
renovated to provide for a very satisfactory library
operation. There are several possibilities which
exist by combining different parts of the complex.
We at the Nassau Library System would be willing
to develop a tentative layout for the proposed li-brary
based on the building program recommended
earlier by Mrs, Elizabeth Thomson, a library con-sultant.
The plan proposed by the system could
then be developed into a complete design by an
architect.
As a rough rule of thumb estimate, I would ex-pect
that the renovation, furniture and equipment
as well as other outlays to provide library service
of high quality for the residents of East Rockaway
would cost between $75,000 and $85,000. These
costs to some extent would be offset by the value
gained by the Village Board through the avail-ability
of the present library site for resale and
from utilization for Village purposes of the unused
portion of the PIC properties. These factors coupled
with a designed improvement in the availability of
parking would make the PIC building a very at-tractive
package to the taxpayer and the library
patron. Mr. Reinhard has indicated that he will
send me architectural drawings of the PIC prop-erties
so that they will be available in my office
on June 28,
Thank you for giving the system an opportunity
to be of service to the community of East Rockaway,
Sincerely yours,
Andrew Geddes

Lynbrook in the Mayors' Trophy
Game with a homerun and single
which resulted in the driving in of
4 runs. His fine defense play also
helped greatly towards the win
for Lynbrook.
Also starring for Lynbrook was
pitcher, Chris Maier, who helped
his own cause by driving in 2 runs
with a single in the 7th inning.
Three youths were arrested by
S&t. Peter Margraf of the Lyn-brook
Police Dept. for unauthor-ized
use of a motor vehicle prior
to the owner having knowledge
that the vehicle had been stolen.
About 4:25 A.M. Friday, June
18, Sgt. Margraf observed three
male occupants of a 1963 Chevro-let
acting suspiciously on John
Street.
The vehicle proceeded on John
Street to Merrick Road where the
sergeant motioned to the operator
to pull to the curb. Instead, the
operator accelerated and sped
east on Merrick Road into Rock-ville
Centre, In RockvUle Centre
the Chevrolet crossed the high-way
divider and proceeded west-bound
on Sunrise Highway. By this
time, several other Lynbrook
Police Department and Nassau
County Police Department vehi-cles
had joined in the pursuit
which had reached high speeds.
At Market Street and Sunrise
Highway in Valley Stream the
pursued vehicle apparently ran
out of fuel, mounted the center
mall of Sunrise Highway throwing
the occupants from the vehicle.
The subjects attempted to flee
the scene on foot but were appre-hended
by Sgt, Margraf, Ptl, Bon-gers
and Ptl, Epstein of the Lyn-brook
Police Department and Ptl,
Meehan and Ptl, Volpe of the
5th Pct„ Nassau County Police
Department.
Operator of the vehicle was
identified as Herbert Crosby, age
17 years, of 34-47 108th Street,
Corona, and occupants David
Nicholson both 19 years of 192-14
110th Road, St. Albans,
During the investigation, the
owner of the vehicle was con-tacted
and was unaware the vehi-cle
had been stolen. He then re-ported
the loss to the 105th Pct„
New York City Police Depart-ment.
Subjects were arraigned the
same morning in 1st District
Court, Mineola,
