Proceeds Of Jewelry
Store Stick-Up Recovered
On Wednesday afternoon about 4:20 P.M. two
men entered Green's Jewelry Store, 14 Atlantic
Avenue, Lynbrook, displayed guns and handcuffed
the Proprietor, Mac Sacks, and an employee, Sally
Parrotta and Jesse Fisher a neighboring merchant
who had stopped in to see Sacks.
After stuffing cloth into Mrs. Parrotta's mouth
and tieing her feet with strips of cloth, they pushed
her to the floor in a rear room. Mr. Sacks was
pushed to the floor in the rear storeroom and Mr.
Fisher was kept in the rear portion of the store.
The "stick-up" men then proceeded to empty the
jewelry from the display cases into an attache
case and their pockets, approximately $20,000
worth of jewelry was taken. Mr. Sacks managed
to free himself and run out the back door of his
store and into the adjoining store to call the police.
Personnel of the paint store, Waitz & Waitz, ran
out on Atlantic Avenue and called to Ptl. John
Carnival on Traffic Duty at 5 Corners. Ptl. John
Behr was walking on Merrick Rd. and was also
alerted by the people on Atlantic Avenue calling
for the police. He ran toward the rear of the jewel-ry
store as the **stick-up" men were fleeing to a
car parked in the driveway of the parking field
being operated by a third man. Ptl. Behrnot know-ing
exactly what had taken place ordered the "stick-up"
men to halt and as they continued to run toward
the car, Ptl. Behr fired a shot into the air at which
time the attache case was dropped to the ground
and the car sped South on Forest Avenue toward
Sunrise Highway. Ptl. Behr fired a shot at the car.
Ptl. Carnival commandeered a vehicle and at-tempted
to pursue the stick-up car, but lost sight
of the pursued vehicle at Sunrise Highway.
Most of the jewelry was recovered. The 5th Sqd.
Detectives of the Nassau County Police assisted and
are continuing the investigation with the Lynbrook
Police.
