Gerald <*Jerry" Greenberg
Gerald "Jerry" Greenberg,
serving his second term as Com-mander
of American Legion Post
No. 335 was born in the Browns-ville
section of Brooklyn. His
father and mother, Benjamin and
Mary are still residents of
Brooklyn. He has a brother,
Theodore "Ted" Greenberg, a
retail store manager, and another
brother, Leonard, in the carpet
business who is a resident of
Miami, Florida.
Jerry attended public schools
in Brooklyn and graduated from
Thomas Jefferson High School.
He is one man who has had a
very wide and varied e3q)erlence
In the business world and is now,
a salesmanager for a wallps4)er
manufacturer and distributor.
His territory is the entire North-eastern
part of the country and he
traVels quite a bit.
He served in the Korean War as
a Sgt. in the United States Marine
Corps and feels that the fine
training and discipline he re-ceived
in the corps has been of
great benefit to him all of his
life, especially in being able to
meet the public and to handle all
types of people.
He is married to the former
Marie Martin, a vivacious lady
of great charm who has also made
her own community contribution
through the years, serving as
President of the Cerebral Palsey
Auxiliary in Lynbrook for three
terms, now a past-president, and
now, as an officer in the Doe
Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the
Elks.
When they were first married,
they lived in Woodside and now
own a lovely home on Morton
Ave. in Lynbrook.
They have three sons, age 19,
a former graduate of East Rock-away
High School, now working,
Dru, age 17, who has just grad-uated
from East Rockaway High,
and who will attend Harper Col-lege
in Binghamton, N.Y. and son,
Ralph, age 15, a Junior at East
Rockaway High School.
The Interesting thing about
Jerry and Marie Is that they have
an Inter-religious marriage,
Marie being of the Catholic faith
and Jerry, the Jewish faith.
Marie has a very close and loving
relationship with her in-laws,
file Greenbergs, and her fond
father-in-law calls her "the
brat" with great affection. Jerry
feels that the most vivid ex-perience
in his life was his mar-riage
to his beloved Marie and
they have had many happy and
fruitful years together.
He is a tall athletic 6 ft.,
180 lbs. and has dark brown eyes
and dark brown hair and wears
tortoise shell glasses. He has a
warm out-going personality and a
quiet and dependable air of self-control
and command. Marie
claims that he has always been
a strict disciplinarian but a
wonderful husband and father with
an easy sense of humor and a
great deal of compassion. His
hobbies are golf and bowling and
he Is strictly a steak and potatoes
man, though he does love Italian
food especially .the way Marie
can prepare it. Jerry likes to
dance and is fond of "the Lindy"
and likes to dress up when he
goes out.
Thie Greenbergs have a dog
called Bronco and two cats who
are quite unusual. One, a part-
Persian is called Clancy and
loves to sleep on his back with
his paws in the air and another
.called Dum-Dum, who they claim
is the smartest cat in Lynbrook
because of his habits and the fact
that he zeroed in on them and
adopted the entire Greenberg
family lock, stock, and barrel.
He is an officer of the Lyn-brook
Lodge B.P.O.E. Elks No.
1515 and serving his second term
as Commander of the American
Legion Post No. 335 and is a
Past-Officer ofthe Lynbrook Lit-tle
League and the Dad's Club
of East Rockaway High School.
Jerry feels that the American
Legion as a whole has done a
great deal for the veterans and
explained that they were re-sponsible
for the G.I. Bill of
Rights, which has enabled so
many veterans to complete their
college education or get further
traing in civilian life. He stated
the American Legion has con-sistently
promoted Americanism
and love of God and country and
respect for the flag of the United
States and it's government. The
post in Lynbrook is one of the
oldest in both Nassau County and
the U.S. and has 16 fifty-one
year members, veterans of any
war we have been engaged in.
Jerry Greenberg is the type of
man who would be active in any
place he happened to live in and
he is also the kind of person one
is happy to talk to because of
his easy and naturally friendly
manner and his history and
training is very much in evi-dence
with his erect carriage and
perceptive ability to understand
a great many things one does not
even articulate. His and his be-loved
wife, Marie are assets to
Lynbrook and both have proved
it time and again through the
years.
