Annette Ling
Miss Marjorie Swarthout,
Guidance Counselor of Lynbrook
Hi^ School is retiring this year
after a worthy record of 42
years in the service of School
District #20, especially Lynbrook
High School. Miss Swarthout and
her beloved mother, Belle, age
90 on July 2nd, live on Atlantic
Ave. in Lynbrook.
She was born in Gorham, N.Y,
in the Finger Lakes section of
N.Y. She was graduated from
public school in Hall, N.Y. and
Geneva High School, graduated ^
from Cornell University, where
she was a math major and ob-tained
her Master's Degree in
Mathematics & Education at Col-umbia
University. Miss Swarth-out
has done graduate work in
Guidance and Administration at
N.Y. University.
She first started to teach school
in Penn Yan, N.Y. and came
to Lynbrook and joined the High
School staff of teachers in 1928.
She taught all grades of math
In Lynbrook High School and for
over 20 years, has been a skilled
Guidance Counselor, helping to
guide the careers of many thou-sands
of young people. Miss
Swarthout has one sister, Har-
Marjorie Swarthout
riette, Mrs. W.K. Spry, who lives
in Kansas City and has two sons
Bill, age 24, leaving for Viet
Nam and Ronald, age 20 finish-ing
his Junior Year in college.
Miss Swarthout is a regal look-ing
lady with kindly features
who will be greatly missed by
her many friends and students
at Lynbrook Higli School. She
vacations at Keuka Lake, N.Y.
where she has a summer home
and enjoys crocheting, especially

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?
The Fifth Squad Detectives are attempting to
locate any witnesses to a rape which occurred
in the vicinity of Lakewood Blvd. and Windsor
Place, one block west of Ocean Ave., Lynbrook,
N.Y., on the evening of June 5, 1970. Perpetrator
described as follows:
Male, white, 25 to 35 years of age, 5*7" tall,
dark hair, dark complexion, medium build.
ALL INFORMATION WILL BE HELD IN CON-FIDENCE.

Goldberg Drops In
FORMER U.N. AMBASSADOR
GOLDBERG'S HELICOPTER
FORCED DOWN IN LYNBROOK
On Wednesday evening about
8:40 p.m. Patrolman Robert
Buckman on Radio Motor Patrol
observed a helicopter circling
near Peninsula Boulevard and
Denton Avenue, shortly after a
heavy fog had set in. Patrol-man
Buckman realized the cop-ter
was in trouble and stopped
all traffic on Peninsula Boule«
vard. He also had turned on the
red roof light and after noticing
the copter pilot had turned on
his landing lights, Patrolman
Buckman used the spotlight from
the patrol car to assist the pilot
in setting down safely in the
parking area due to the incle-ment
x^ather. The copter was
carrying former U.S. Supreme
Court Judge and former U.N.
Ambassador from the United
States Goldberg and his party
to Patchogue where the Ambas-sador
was to attend a political
rally. Patrolman Buckman no-tified
Lynbrook Police Headquar-ters
of the incident and assist-ance
responded to the scene.
Judge Goldberg and his party
were taken to Lynbrook Police
Headquarters where they were
able to contact the Restaurant
that he was to appear at and was
later taken to Patchogue by the

to Patrolman Buckman for his
assistance to the copter pilot
in assisting them to set down
safely. The copter is owned by
Dowling College, Oakdale, New
York and operated Flight Safe-ty
Service at Republic Aviation,
pilot; William
Diggle of Brentwood, New Y"ork,
remained with the copter until
Thursday morning when the
weather cle£u:ed sufficiently for
him to return to Farmingdale.
Governor Wires Lynbrook Keeps Trophy
struck out 22 East Rockaway
batters while issuingonly 4bases
on balls.
The batting star for Lynbrook
was Charles Viana with 4 out
of 4, which included 2 singles
and 2 doubles.
Congratulations
To Lynbrook
Governor Nelson A. Rocke-feller
wired his congratulations
to Mayor Francis X. Becker and
the Board of Trustees of the
Village of Lynbrook on the oc-casion
of the Third Annual Lyn-brook,
U. S. A. Week. Special
kudos were extended by the
Governor also for Lynbrook's
recent award in a national beauti-fication
contest. The Village re-ceived
the highest honors
accorded any municipality in New
York State.
Lynbrook Week extends
through the 28th of June when the
final night of celebration will be
at Gries Park when the St. An-thony
Society will launch a mam-mouth
fire works demonstration.
During the week there will be
theater, a block party, a park
dedication, music, dancing and
partying for all Lynbrook resi-dents.

Trustees and to the Village of
Lynbrook on the occasion of your
third annual Lynbrook US A Week.
It is fitting that your exemplary

MAYORS* TROPHY GAME -
The final game of a best out
of 5 series between the Lyn-brook
Recreation All Stars and
East Rockaway Recreation All
Stars was played on Saturday,
June 13, in Greis Park, with
Lynbrook defeating East Rock-away
5-2. Both teams played
outstanding ball, with Lynbrook
icing the game in the 7th inning
by scoring 3 runs when Richard
Cernera walked, John Gentile
singled, Robert Lorifice singled
scoring Cernera and Charlie Vi-ana
sending Gentile and Lori-fice
across the plate with a
double.
Starring for Lynbrook were
Fink, Cernera, DeGiorgio, and
Maier whose combined pitching
Lent Schedules
Congressional Debate
State Senator Norman F. Lent,
Republican candidate for Con-gress,
has begun scheduling cam-paign
debates, according to his
Campaign Manager, Paul W,
Lynch.
The East Rockaway Republican
has accepted an invitation extend-ed
by the Home Party of Lyn-brook,
Inc., to appear at a 5th
Congressional District Candi-dates'
Forum on Wednesday eve-ning,
September 16th, The Forum
will be held at the Horton Ave-nue
Firehouse, Lynbrook, and
will be moderated by a repre-sentative
of the League of Women
Voters,
Lent is running for the seat
held by Representative AUard
K. Lowenstein, Democrat of Long
Beach.
Lynbrook Mayor, Francis X.
Becker was presented with the
Mayors' trophy at the conclusion
of the game by East Rockaway
Recreation Commission Chair-man
David Caruso. The trophy
now remains in the permanent
possession of Lynbrook.
Preceding the Mayors' Trophy
Game was a Small Fry All Star
Game and East Rockaway proved
much too strong for Lynbrook
by defeating them 15-4.
Mahrerne
Art Show
Hempstead Avenue in Malverne
will become the scene of a side-walk
Art Exhibit Friday, Satur-day
and Sunday, July 10, 11,
12, when Long Island and Tri-
State artists "Do Their Thing"
at the "First Annual Malverne
Merchants Association Sidewalk
Art Exhibition." Keeping up
with the times, this historic vil-lage
will get right into the swing
of things, and the Malverne Mer-chants
Association invites area
residents who are professional
artists or who enjoy art as a
hobby to exhibit at this show.
The exhibit will be judged, and
prizes awarded. For informa-tion
