GOP Candidates
For 13th and ISth AD
On Thursday the Hempstead
Town Republican Executive Com-mittee
is e:!q)ected to approve
the candidates named by local
GOP leaders last week to run
against two of Nassau's Demo-cratic
incumbent assemblymen.
The candidates chosen are:
Leo F. McGinity, a Baldwin
lawyer, to rtm against Assem-blyman
John Thorp J r . (D-Rock-ville
Centre) in the 13th district,
consisting of Rockville Centre,
Roosevelt, Oceanside and Lyn-brook.
McGinity recently pros-ecuted
Maurice G, McNeill, 35-
year-old Baldwin High School bi-ology
teacher who was cleared
of charges of molesting a 16-
year-old girl student,
Richard Edstrom, Valley
Stream village attorney, to face
A.ssemblyman Ell Wager OD-Woodmere)
in the 15th district,
covering East Rockaway, Five
Towns, Hewlett Bay Park, Hew-lett
Harbor, Hewlett Neck,
Woodsburgh and Valley Stream,
Eldstrom is also the assistant
GOP leader in Valley Stream.
Nassau's Reipublican chairman.
Assemblyman Joseph Margiotta
of Uniondale, said yesterday in
Albany that he has called a meet-ing
of the Hempstead Town Ex-ecutive
Committee, over which he
also presides, to pass on the
recommendations. **It's almost
a certainty that they'll be the
ones approved," Margiotta said.
Then he added: "But nothing is
absolutely certain until it hap-p
e n s . " The meeting will take
place at GOP headquarters in
the Garden City Hotel.
Liberty Hose
50th Year
Liberty Hose Co, #2, of the
East Rockaway F i r e Department,
is celebrating its golden an-niversary
this year.
Liberty was chartered by the
State of New York on January
15, 1918, and opened its first
quarters on Clark Street in 1919.
The f i r s t apparatus, a Ford, came
to these quarters in 1920.
The pre sent firehouse was built
in 1925 to house a larger ap-paratus,
a Mack, which was pur-chased
in 1926. A still larger
and more powerful Mack was
bought in 1946 and is still in
service. Negotiations are cur-rently
in progress for the pur-chase
of a more modem ap-paratus
and for the alteration
of the facade of the firehouse.
Liberty opened the events of
this jubilee year with an open
house on Sunday, January 21st,
and will continue them with a
fiftieth anniversary dinner for
the members of Liberty and their
wives on February 3rd at Carl
Hoppl's in Baldwin, Other events
will be announced later.
Re-Elects Directors
At Suburbia Federal Savings
and Loan Association's (Garden
City, N.Y.) Annual Meeting of
Members, the following Direc-tors
were re-elected to three-year
terms: Louis P. Anziano,
Peter C. Doyle, J r . , Walter E.
Kbehler, Sr.,- William J. Mc-
Grath and J. Arthur Stein. These
five men represent over a cen-tury
of service to the Association.
Another yearend highlight was the
dynamic growth achieved by
Suburbia Federal which reached
assets in excess of two-hundred
million dollars - an increase of
$26,484,354 over the past fiscal
year - setting an all time record.
At the organization meeting that
followed, the Hon. Frank J.
Becker was re-elected Chair-man
of the Board and Veronica
I, Dolan, President. Other senior

Demonstrates
In Watercolor
Arthur J. Barbour AWS.prize
winning artist, will give a water
color demonstration for the
Malverne Public Library, 61 St.
Thomas's Place, Malverne. The
public is invited.
Mr, Barbour has exhibited ex-tensively
in Museums, galleries,
and in regional and national shows
from coast to coa,st. He has won
awards in numerous important
shows including the American
Artists Professional League,
New Jersey Watercolor Society,
and the National Arts Club. For
the past five years his works
appeared in several of the Ford
Times, and he was represented
at the Ford Pavillion at the
Worlds Fair, During the summer
of 1965, he was sent to
Guantanomo Bay, Cuba, where
he painted the UjS, Navy, and
Marines in action. These
paintings are now part oftheU.S,
Navy and Marine Corps,
collection.

Bethany Church. Speaker for the
day will be Rev. Paul Light, Chap-lain
at Adelphi University. Topic
of his lecture will be, "A Report
on Campus Ministry.
