Out of sight, out of mind?
Never happened at the V.F.W.
Howard-Lathrop Post #2307,
Lynbrook.
Their "Operation - Morale
Program" is their secret v.eapon
and sure-fire way in which this
Post and Auxiliary help in fight-ing
"away from home-itis" and
the "Viet Nam Blues!"
Monthly packages are still be-ing
made-up with plenty of T.
L.C. (tender, loving care) and
sent to the Boys in Viet Nam.
From the many, many heart-warming
letters the Post and
Auxiliai-y have received, these
packages are terrific moral
boosters. As Navy man, Ray
Vecchione wrote in his letter to
the V.F.W. quote, "It's a won-

Dunne was appointed Deputy Law

Hempstead #Post #1 of the
V.F.W., President of the Holy
Name Society of St. Joseph's
Church in Garden City, a mem-ber
of the Bishop's Committee
of the Laity, and Past-President
of the Nassau County Young Re-publicans.
Mr, Dunne's answers to the fol-lowing
questions are as follows:
WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON
THE PROPOSED 20% NEW YORK
STATE INCOME TAX IN-CREASE?
"I am opposed to the proposed
increases in State Taxes by the
19G3 Legislature. We must take
the lead in the hard task of cutting
the cost of government as our first
priority. We must hold the line
on state aid to education, on pub-lic
employee's salaries ar
on recreation ejqjanslou. w^rnust
attempt to cut the budget in the
area of welfare and similar pro-grams
which have made it more
attractive for some under that
rather than ecceptahand-upfrom
poverty."
WHAT IS YOUR POSFHON ON
THE PROPOSED 1? NEW YOilK
STATE SALES TAX?
"The resort to an increase
in sales tax will be self-defeat-ing
since it will have the effect
of depressing our economy by
draining off business to out-of-state
areas. Further, it would
burden upstate counties, already
levying local sales taxes more
then they could bear."
WHA T IS YOUR PROPOSA L ON
THE RISING CRIME RATE m
NEW YORK STATE?
"The rising crime rate poses
tlie worst serious threat to our
community because it reflects a
basic weakening of social fabric.
Tlie philosophy of permissiveness
which has resulted in a lack of
respect for autliority must be
abandoned and re;placed by some
of the principals which have made
our nation great. Legislation
should be enacted in order to:
1. impose liability upon parents
for damage to property inflicted
by their children;
2. develop programs to train
the inmates of our prisons in
meaningful worthwhile occupa-tions
rather than idleness;
3. expedite the procedures
on our criminal courts so that
congested calendars will not be
the cause of "plea/bargaining"
a practice which has permitted
hardened criminals to avoid true
justice."
WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON
THE RE-ENACTMENT OF THE
DEATH PENALTY IN NEW YORK
AS A DETERRENT TO CRIME?
"I believe strongly that de-terrence
is a key factor of crimin-al
law and that the death penalty
is a deterrent in light of the
recent increase in homicides in
this state. I believe we should
strongly consider expanding the
grounds for imposing the death
penalty. As a member of the
Senate Codes Committee, I in-tend
to make this a matter of
first attention."
