Vote on $4.80 Tax
Increase In Malverne
Tuesday October 15th
On Tuesday, October 15th, a vote will be held to
seek approval of a referendum to expand the Mal-verne
Public Library, This vote will be held in the
Malverne Firehouse between the hours of 12 Noon
and 9 P,M.
The referendum involves a bond issue of $120,-
000.00 to be spread out over the next twenty years
at about 5% interest, approximately an additional
60 thousand dollars. Approval of the proposition
would mean an increase of nearly $.08 per each
$100.00 assessed valuation, or $4.80 per year for
the average Malverne taxpayer. It is estimated
that the cost of this special vote to the taxpayers
Will be $1,000,00,
The Library Board feels a critical need would be
met and it would be an excellent investment in
the educational and cultural future of the commun-ity
and its residents.
The following would be accomplished: A com-pletely
new Children's Room, space to accommodate
an expanded book collection, present seating capac-ity
would be doubled, air conditioning for year-round
comfort, private adult lounge, a remodeled
meeting room, and expanded reference facilities.
