Lynbrook
Village Board Meeting
By Amiette Ling
A regular meeting of the
Village Board of Lynbrook was
held at The Community Bank,
15 Atlantic Ave., Lynbrook,Mon-day
evening presided over by
Deputy Mayor Kurt Arndt. Msgr.
Ronald McDonald of Our Lady
of Peace Church gave the in-vocation.
Deputy Mayor Arndt
welcomed Lynbrook's new Vil-lage
Clerk Joseph Vitelli who
has begun his work in office.
The majority of matters brought
before the Board were on Lyn-brook
Police Dept. affairs. In
a concise and complete report
for the month of Jilne, Chief
Walter Waring report^ that
there were a totol of 548 radio
calls answered by the Lynbrook
Police force in June, 11 persons
figerprinted for jobs etc. accord-ing
to- law, 83 conditions re-ported
and investigated, 1 char-acter
reference, 25 air raid tests.
610 tag summonses, 51 auto
accidents, 10 arrests, and a total
of 12,896 alarms received from
the Nassau County Police Dept.
A question from Lynbrook
Trustee Ben Rashkin brought out
the fact that one of our Lyn-brook
Patrolmen James Coan
had been Injured while trying
to stop a suspicious automobile
and was not allowed to use a
gun for a warning shot etc. Chief
Waring stated that according to
N.Y, state law an officer must
use his pistol in certain cir-cumstances
such as when his
life is threatened, etc. and an
officer is not allowed much lee-way
in the use of it. The Board
of Trustees passed the motion
to help defray the expense and
permit- Lt, Frances Karg to attend
a sem^ar on community rela-tions
given at Adelphi for which
the Police Dept. was given a
scholarship. The Board approved
replacing a wrecked police car
with a new unmarked police
"stock car" at a very low cost.
The Lynbrook Police Dept, has
made every resident quite proud
at their final score in the Dept.
pistol qualification trials held
yearly at the Marion St, School
rifle range. The Lynbrook de-partment
has one Distinguished
Ejipert, 28 Experts, 12 Sharp-shooters,
1 Marksman, and two
qualified. There were reports
from the Lynbrook Fire Dept.-
from Chief Dominick DeCarlo
and this columnist reminds every
reader who lives in Lynbrook
to remember the Lynbrook Fire
Dept. Fund Drive and the fact
that your donation will help so
much because they are all
volunteers and have proved time
and time again what wonderful
aid they render in time of trouble.
Jerry Sanetti gave the June Build-ing
Dept. report, reporting the
number of various permits etc.,
two fire truck specifications will
be studied by the Board as they
are old and need replacing very
badly. The Recreation Report
was presented by the Chairman
of the Commission Mr. John
Larsen with details of activities
such as a swim-splash party,
a baseball clinic, 176 senior
citizens in attendance at the
meetings at the Recreation Build-ing
at Greis Field and Lynbrook's
defeat in baseball at Greis Field.
On Sept. 7th, a gala entertainment
will be given free to the public
at Freis Field with the Long
Island Banjo Society playing and
a good rock-n-roll band etc.
Trustee Bil' Buzzeo hopes that
all local residents will become
more aquainted with the fine
facilities at Greis Park and use
them. Miss Mary Berg gave
her Lynbrook Library report for
June and reported an increase
In registered readers and new
books received. The Board voted
to change the meeting dates for
Sept. to the 9th and the 30th
because of conflicting holidays
in that month. Reginald Pill-ing
gave the Dept. of Public Works
report and a good comparison of
the work of the Public Works
Dept, activities for 1967 and
1968. A request to purchase
and install two new air-condi-tioners
was approved and one
of the shortest Village Board
Meetings on record came to a
close.
