A gentle, quiet man will soon
assume the post of Village Clerk
here in Lynbrook, UJS^. His
love" of this community dates
back many years from the time he
first settled here back in 1912.
He lives" with his family at 34
Hart St., Lynbrook. Mrs. Vitelli
is the former Dorothea Reardon
of Lynbrook, Mr. Vitelli
graduated from Manhattan Prep
School and attended Manhattan
College. His grandfather, found-ed'F.
VitelU & Son back in 1884.
It is an importing and exporting
firm in foodstuffs etc. Mr, Vitelli
has a good knowledge of business
and is capable and efficient in
everything he undertakes. His
daughter, Victoria is now Sister
Frances Therese of the Francis-can
Sisters of the Poor and has
just graduated as a full-fledged
RJN. from St, Francis Hospital
in' New Jersey. The Vitelli's

Engineering School. Another son,
Stephen, age 16, will begin Ms
Senior Year at Lynbrook High
School in September,
At 2.00 P.M. on July 4th at
the historic Fire mens Memorial
on Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook
Post No 335 and the Auxiliary
of the Post joined with other
posts throughout the nation in
ringing this bell to commem-orate
the 192d year of signing
of the Declaration of Indepen-dence.
Commander A1 Monatamorano
led the group in the pledge of al-legiance
to the flag. The drill
team of Lynbrook Post fired a
salute.
At the last meeting of Lyn-brook
Post No 335 American Le-gion
the following were elected
to serve as officers for the 50th
Anniversary year of'the Amer-ican
Legion:

Mr. William Gaddis, Malverne's Village Clerk picks another Helm

Police Revives I'astor of St. James
Injured Man
Ptl, Francis Carrizzo of the
Lynbrook Police Department
while on patrol duty at 9:35 PJvl.
Sunday, June 30th. Received a
call over the police radio of a
possible drowning at 11 Lafayette
Avenue,
Upon arrival at the scene Ptl.
Carrizzo was informed by an
unknown woman that "He is in
the rear yard and I don't think
he is breathing." Ptl. Carrizzo
and Ptl, Arthur Haule who had
arrived in another police vehicle
proceeded to the rear yard
where they observed a man later
identified as Thomas McDermott
of 11 Lafayette Avenue, Lynbrook
lying on the ground, Ptl. Carrizzo
immediately applied mouth to
mouth resuscitation and after
several minutes Mr, McDermott
resumed breathing and was ad-ministered
oxygen. Ihe Lyn-brook
Fire Department Rescue
Squad responded, rendered ad-ditional
assistance and removed
injured person to the hospital.
Mr, Mc Dermott had been
diving into his swimming pool in
the r«ar yard and apparently
struck his head on the bottom of
the pool*
Methodist Church
The Rev. L. Lester McGonagle
is the new pastor of St. James
Methodist Church, Pastor Mc-
Gonagle, his wife, Martha, and
their two children, Steven and
Rebecca, have moved into the
parsonage of 244 Earle Ave,,
Lynbrook. Mrs. McGonagle, a
native of BratUeboro, Vt. is a
graduate of Boston University
with a degree in philosophy and
religion. Pastor McGonagle was
born in Punxsutawney, Pa,, grad-uated
from Pennslyvania State
University, and Drew Theological
School. He has served the parish
at Lake Mahopac, N.Y., was an
Associate Pastor in Indiana, Pa.
and has just served eight years
at Buchanan, N.Y. Mr. McGonagle
has been active in community and
ecumenical affairs in the Greater
P e e k s k l l l area, Chairman of
Town of Cortlandt Human Re-lations
Commission, chaplain of
the Peeksklll Rotary Club and
secretary of the Peeksklll Area
Pastors Association. All mem-bers
and friends of St. James
United Methodist Church are in-vited
to attend our summer Sun-day
service at 10K)0 a.m. Pastor
McGonagle will be preaching the
first three Sundays In July,
The Malverne "Chipmunks"
swept into FIRST PLACE in the
Competitive Drill sponsored by
the Fourth Battalion and held
at Cries Park, Lynbrook on Sun-day
afternoon, July 7th,
The Malverne team's high point

This is the second successive
year that the Malverne "Chip-munks"
have earned the Peter
J, Moody Memorial Point Trophy,
Joseph Vitelli
Mr, Vitelli likes a good game
of golf, but his favorite love is
good music, classical type,
qjera and symphony with Bach
and Beethoven his favorite com-,
posers. He is a Trustee of Our
Lady of Peace Church in Lyn-brook
and has devoted countless
hours of volunteer time to chuix:h
and charitable projects. He is
active in the Independent Party
of Lynbrook and believes that
good healthy hard work never
hurt anyone. He feels that "a
man's reputation is better than
wealth," Mr, Vitelli comes from
a large family with 6 brothers
and 3 sisters. He has seen a
great deal of life in his 58 years
and can be classed as a truly
devoted family man dedicated to
service to others in a determined
quiet fashion that insures that
he give his best in any endeavor
he undertakes with the greatest
sincerity. The best wishes of
all local people go out to "Joe"
in his new post.
