HEAVY SMOKE POTOS from the Lynbrook Woolworth's store during height of big fire on last
Thursday night, September 7. Nearly 250 volunteer firemen battled the $500,000 blaze. Twenty-five
firemen were overcoma with smoke and four were hospitalized. The Lynbrook Fire Depart-ment
was aided by Rockville Centre, Valley Stream and East Rockaway Fire Departments

Sol Wachtler Day
In Lynbrook
Friday, Sept. 15
Sol Wachtler, the Republican
candidate for Nassau County
Executive, will spend all day
Friday, September 15, in Lyn-brook.
The purpose of this all-day
visit, according to Robert G.
Becker, Republican Campaign
Chairman, will be to have Super-visor
Wachtler meet local resi-dents
and businessmen and to
familiarize him with Lyn-brook's
views on the adminis-tration
of county government.
Wachtler's visit to Lynbrook
is one in a series which will
carry him into every commu-nity
in Nassau County. '
Supervisor Wachtler's tour
of Lynbrook will include abreak-fast
meeting with local busi-nessmen,
a tour of municipal
facilities of the Incorporated
Village of Lynbrook, a coffee
klatsch, visits to local indus-tries
and a walk tIu:ough the
business district to meet vil-lage
residents in the shopping
area.
"I am hopeful that the resi-dents
of Lynbrook will avail
themselves of this visit by
Supervisor Wachtler to meet
him and inquire regarding his
views on the major issues fac-ing
our community," Mr,
Becker stated. "In this way
they will be able tobest serve
the interest of good govern-ment
by being a well-informed
electorate."

Stamp Club will hold its month-ly
meeting in the Sea Horse
Room of the South Shore Fed-eral
Savings and Loan Asso-ciation
at 17 West Marrick Rd.,
Freeport, L.I., on Monday,Sep-tember
18th. at 7:45 P.M. All

Award
Audrey Hyder, 18 Jefferson
Street, Lynbrook, was present-ed
with the first Howard T.
Herber Memorial Scholarship
Award on Wednesday, Septem-ber
6th at the office of John
K. Archer, Principal of the
Malverne Senior High School.
Miss Ryder, graduate of the
class of '67, was selected by
a committee comprising mem-bers
of the Faculty Adminis-tration
and the two delegates
from the Howard T. Herber
Fund committee itself.
The Award established last
year by citizens of the School
District, honors the memory
of the late beloved Howard T.
Herber, Superintendent of
School District No. 12 for more
than 35 years. It is presented
each year to the most out-standing
future teacher of the
Senior class, and through this
selection the award serves as
a living memorial to the ideals
to which Dr. Herber dedicat-
