Volunteers Are Sought
For E. Rockaway
A HAPPY ENDING- Malverne's Summer Recreation Program at Lindner Place School came to
an end last week with the Village teating the kids to a gala Hot Dog Party. Mmebers of the Village
Board of Trustees were on hand to help the youngsters enjoy the day's festivities. In the above

The Lynbrook Recreation
Commission is sponsoring its
5th Annual Invitational Base-ball
Tournament which is to
be held in September, short-ly
after Labor Day.
Eligibility rules for the
Tournament are as follows:
A, Boys must have been 12 years
old or younger on August 1,
1967.
B. Boys must be a resident of
the village they represent, ex-cept
in cases of Little League
teams where Little League
programs were conducted in
villages, whereby they were
permitted to draw boys from
other areas.
The winning teams will re-ceive
trophies and the Entrance
•Fee is $25.00. Registrations
for teams close September 1.
All teams wishing to enter
into the Tournament or desi-rous
of additional information
should contact Maurice De Luca
of the Lynbrook Recreation De-partment

Mayor Winfred M. Berg of
East Rockaway Village stated
the Village Government is now
acting to stop the erosion of
East Rockaway's Residential
areas as a result of road wide-ning.
You can help by givii^
us a few hours of your time.
Starting next week, the East
Rockaway Planning Commis-sion
will conduct a traffic study
on all County owned roads with-in
the Scranton Avenue, Atlantic
Avenue, Ocean Avenue and at
Lawson Blvd., Oceanside. All
you do is rea^ off to a recor-der,
the last three numbers
of a car's license plate as it
passes by. Volunteers are asked
to work together in two-hour
shifts. The critical hours are
between 7:00 and 9:00 in the
morning, and 4:30 and 6:30 in
the evening. If we have enough
volunteers, mid-day surveys
will also be conducted. The
first three days of the study
will be held on Wednesday,
August 23rd. Saturday, August
26th and Sunday, August 27th.
Meetings with the Planning
Commission wUl be held at the
Village Hall on Monday and
Tuesday evenings at 7:30 P.lil
August 21st and 22nd to give
volunteers instructions.
Mayor Berg said, this is
your Village. Continual road
widening will disrupt it. You
can help us effectively block
such action by giving us two
hours of your time. Volunteer

9 A.M. to 4:45 P.M. for more
definite information and to sign
up.
IMPORTANT MEETINGS
An important meeting of the St. Mary's Auxiliary will be held
at the clubjouse on Monday, September 11 at 8:30 P.M. Congratu-lations
are in order for Dorothy Gavin who was chosen as the
"Belle of St. Mary's" at the June moeting.
Another meeting of importance is scheduled for tonight (Thurs-day,
August 17, at 8 P.M. It is the newly - formed Ladies Auxil-iary
of Hose Company No, i, Blake Avenue, Lynbrook.

X. Becker's plans to re-build
and revitalize Lynbrook's
Commercial district, the Lyn-brook
Chamber of Commerce
invited Dr. Milton S. Osborne,
R.A. Professor Emeritus of
Pennsylvania State University
to survey the potential beauti-fication
of the Atlantic Ave.,
Shopping district.
Dr. Osborne, who is nation-ally
known for his magical face-lifting
projects to some 40 com-munities
over the United States,
spent Thursday and Friday of
this past week surveying Lyn-
Commercial district, meeting
with merchants on their indi-vidual
needs and addressing a
dinner meeting sponsored by the
Lynbrook Chamber of Com-merce
to explore his recom-mendations
for Lynbrook.
The high Ught of Dr. Os-borne's
two day visit was the
dinner meeting of the Chamber
of Commerce Thursday eve-ning
at the Kings Castle Res-taurant
attended by many in-terested
local business men and
merchants. A special guest at
this meeting was Mayor Bec-ker.
The meeting, presided over
by Chamber President, Freder-ick
Danning, included a discus-sion
and slide presentation of
the work Dr. Osborne had done
across the country. It included
scenes displaying the "before
and after" in communities such
as Gettyburg and Holidaysburg,
Pa. Also presented by Dr. Os-b
rne, were photographs and
architectual sketches illustra-ting
the methods he has used
to reface other communities.
At the conclusion of Dr. Os-borne's
prese.Ttation, a question
and answer session ensued. It
was during this portion of the
meeting that Mayor Becker was
asked for his impressions of
Dr. Osborne's approach to
Community renewal.

BERMUDA BICYCLES- Mr. and Mrs. David G. Walsh, 74 Don-caster
Rd„ Malverne, N.Y., discovered that the best way to
enjoy the Bermuda sunshine and scenery was on their motorized
bicycles. They are pictured at the Castle Harbour Hotel all set
for another day of fun intlie sun. Mr. Walsh is a funeral director
in Malverne.
