Bonds Part of $12 Billion Tax
Grab Bag
"Civic groups from Buffalo
to Montauk have joined hands
across the state to defeat State
Proposition #1, the controversial
$2.5 billion transportation tax
bond i s s u e , " declared Martin
Victor, president of the 35 y e a r -
old Nassau County Non-Partisan
Civic Association. "We are for
sound community idanning and
budgeted spending for better
transportation," he said, "but
these tax bonds are Just part of
a fantastic $12 billion tax grab
scheme. No specific funds are
allocated to identified projects.

Unnecessary
Nassau Sheriff Joseph F.
Maher revealed last night (Wed,
10/25) that Presiding Supervisor
Rali^ G. Caso agrees with him
that Hempstead Town doesn't
xieed a seccmd supervisor and
that the duties assigned to that
office can be h a n d l ^ by one of
Caso's a s s i s t a n t s.
Maher spoke at the opening of
Lynbrook Democratic campaign
headquarters at 10 Atlantic Av-enue.
"The proof that I am r i g h t ,"
said Maher, Democratic can-didate
for siUpervlsor who is
campaigning on a pledge to
abolish the office of supervisor,

The Hempstead Town Re-publican
Committee will host a
gigantic rally, which we hope will
push our County Executive can-didate
over the top, at the Island
Garden Arena, West Hempstead,
Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m.

Land for Beautification
Hie village of Lynbrook will
be allowed to use two parcels
of County land for beautification
purposes, County Executive Eu-gene
H. Nlckerson announced to-day.
Tlie parcels, located on the
northeast and northwest c o m e rs
of Peninsula Blvd. and Rocka-way
Ave., total 17,720 square
feet.
" t t is a pleasure to cooperate
with the Village of Lynbrook in i ts
efforts to make this corner an
attractive gateway to the com-munity,"
Nlckerson said.
Hirough a use and mainten-ance
agreement not involving any
rental payments, Lynbrook
agrees to bear the cost of main-tenance,
supervision, upkeep and
improvement of the property. Hie
Village plans to landscape the
area and Install benches.
Hie County will also offer the
southeast corner of the inter-section
to the Town of Hemp-stead
and the southwest corner
to the Village of Valley Stream
on the same terms. The four
corners became surplus fol-lowing
the realignment of the
intersection from a t r a f f i c c i r c le
to a standard signalized inter-section.
Publk Works Sthool
Taking time out f r om his usual
duties, Floyd F. Mlcox, Supt.
of Public Works of Village of
Lynbrook, participated at the end
of October in an intensive three-day
Public Works School, co-sponsored
by the Conference of
Mayors and Cornell University.
The session was held October
25-27, 1967 at Riley-Robb Hall,
Cornell University, Ithaca, New
York.
The program was designed to
bring to the participants the most
up-to-date information and de-velopments
in such important
but diverse topics as: various
aspects of solid waste disposal,
including composting; regu-lations
and requirements r e g a r d -
ing air pollution control; the
1967 Public Employees Fair Em-ployment
Act; Federal aid pro-grams
for local beautification
projects; developments in snow
melting methods; pavement stab-ilization
processes, and liability
under uniform t r a f f i c control de-vices.
