JubileeChurch
The Most Rev. Walter P,
Kellenberg, D.D., Bishop of the
Diocese of Rockville Centre, has
designated 12 Nassau and Suffolk
County Catholic Churches as pil-grimage
churches, in connection
with the special jubilee being
observed by Catholics during the
first months of this year. Our
own St. Raymond's in East Rock-away
is one.
The jubilee was proclaimed
by Pope Paul VI to celebrate
the successful completion of the
Second Vatican Council,
Catholics who visit one of
the designated churches during
the jubilee — and during the
visit, renew their profession of
faith ih Catholic beliefs — are
granted a plenary indulgence,
according to a letter Bishop Kel-lenberg
sent to all pastors and
priests in the diocese.
It is also necessary to go to
confession, receive Communion
and pray for the intentions of the
Pope, within a reasonable time
before or after the visit.
Catholic teaching defines a
plenary indulgence as the total
removal of liability for earthly
punishment due for past sins.
