Lent Attacks Dems
Parks "Sell Out
State Senator Norman F. Lent
(Republican - East Rockaway) ac-cused
the Democratic Party of at-tempting
to "sell-out" Nassau's mu-nicipal
parks and recreational faci-lities
to the City of New York.
At a Mineola press conferense.
Lent referred to a bill introduced
by New York City Democrats which
would have opened up all of Nas-sau's
tax - supported parks, beaches,
playgrounds, golf courses and other
facilities to residents of New York
City.
Lent told assembled reporters,
"This 'park issue' Has captured the
interest of the electorate. Nassau re-sidents
are proud of their municipal
recreational facilities such as Hemp-stead
Town Beach at Point Lookout
and Salisbury 'Park. They willingly
support these facilities through real
estate taxes. They resent this blatant
effort to open-up these facilities to
residents of the entire state who
contribute nothing towards their
support. Lent concluded his remarks
with the prediction that Nassau vo-ters
will react against local Demo-cratic
candidates because of their
pary's identification with this threat
to Nassau's parks.

At the continuing departmental

Schiller last Friday evening,
Ptl. Richard Boden took the .stand
for the prosecution and testified
that while on motor patrol on June
24, 1965, he was ordered to report
to headqiWrters. While there, he
stated that Lt. Schiller admitted to
him of being caught and asked Bo-den
if he would have any objection
to working with him if he was bro-ken

he didn't care, either way.

jammed parking meters and return
the coin boxes to headquarters.
iPtl. John MacGilvray, the depart--
ments parking meter repairman, at-tested
that coin boxes need not be
touched during repairs. A point
which Schiller later argued in his
testimony.
According to the testimony of
Lt. Howard Rose, acting as an in-vestigating
officer when he decided
rumors of Schiller's alleged actions
were becoming prevalent, he ob-served
Schiller on two occasions on
June 21st, leave his patrol car, re-move
a cx)in box from a meter, place
it under the front seat of the car
and replace it with another canis-ter.
Rose affirmed reporting this to
Chief Vincent Ryer who in turn as-signed
Rose and Capt. Walter Ker-zner
to investigate in order to prove
or disprove the said issue. He then
Bove
stated that Capt. Kerzner and he
marked 200 pennies by slashing a
verticle line through the o in the
word one and had them distribu-ted
in various meters thriughout the
village.
Rose further testified he was
present along with Capt Kerzner
when SchiUer was called to tlie
chief's office the next morning and
confronted with the charges. He
stated that Schiller at first denied
the looting, but when shov/n the
evidence he admitted to the theft,
