Awards Made For Work On E.R.
Municif>al Park-Garage Complex
At a special meeting of the East Rockaway Board of Trustees
held Monday night, awards were made for work on the Muni-cipal
Park-Garage Complex to be constructed in the area bound-ed
by Fifth and Seventh Avenues, Williamson and John Streets.
When completed, this area will
ii« r iude the new Publ i c Wo r k s Ga r -
fe, a park and recreational facili-ties.
On June 15, Ijids were received for
the various phases of work on the
garage. Tlie Board examined all
bids carefully, checking the respon-sibility
of the liiddcrs and their aliil-ity
to perform the work and the fol-lowing
firms were awarded contracts:
L General Construction — Malik
Construction Co., Inc. - $278,172;
2. Plumbing — Horowitz Bros. —
I5;24,9()(); 3. Electrical - Stafford
E l e c t r i c - $]7,860; 4. Heating -
Nhirphy lind Ryder - $26,673; 5.
Demolition — Arnold Carlton —
$1,860.
Since work on ttie park and rec-ational
facilities cannot begin un-the
garage is completed, the
Mayor and the Board are anxious to
start. Resolutions have been adopted
for bond issues to cover the cost
of developing this area.
In other actions Monday night,
the Board adopted a resolution
authorizing the purchase of a new
1964 Cadillac Ambulance for the
Fire Department from Metropolitan
Eqtn'pment Corp., for $14,875, less
$62.5 trade-in allowance on the old
ambidance.
Purchase of a pick-up truck for
the Department of Public Works
was also authorized. Low bidder on
this item was Ted Rowland of Lyn-brook
with a bid of $1,885.45, less
allowance of $100 for the old truck.
Niagara
Or Bust
Last weekend the Max Phillips
family (LYNBROOK FLOOR COV-ERINGS)
took a trip to Niagara
Falls. This was not the usual sight-seeing
drive through New York
They left Lynbrook Friday night
after closing the store, drove all
night and got to the falls very early
Saturday morning. After the usual
sightseeing in Niagara Falls, they
left about four o'clock and again
drove straight through to Lynbrook,
arriving about 1 AM.
This must set some sort of record
for endurance.
WASHINGTON
REPORT
The Congress will recess from
July 3rd to July 20th, to permit
those of us who are delegates and
alternates, as well as those officiat-ing
in other capacities, to go to San
Francisco.
I will be repre.senting the 5th
Congressional District as a dele-gate,
and as stated in a news re-
Senr
ator Barry Goldwater for the nomi-nation.
I do so knowing the man,
and what he stands for. I feel the
American people will get to know
him much better in the months to
come, rather than by reading •
quotes, taken out of context, from
his speeches and statements.
Let me call your attention to this
fact: You have read and heard over
radio and television President John-son's
speech in Minneapolis, in
which he said we must defend
Southeast Asia, even at the RISK
OF WAR. But, shoxdd Barry Gold-water
make a similar statement, he
is called a warmonger by the same
columnists who yesterday admired
Johnson's statement.
Tlie same situation prevails in to-day's
press as did in 1952, when
they did everything humanly pos-sible
to block the nomination of
Senator Robert Taft, and succeed-ed.
When I read many of the news
columnists and commentators "cry-ing"
for the Republican Party and
what will happen to it if Senator
Goldwater gets the nomination, I
wonder if one of them has ever
backed a Republican, much less
voted for one.
In my humble opinion, it is my
desire to nominate a Republican
candidate who will give the Amer-ican
people a real choice as to
whether they wish to- continue
down the road to the eventual Wel-fare
State, or have their gvernment
stimulate the free enterprise system
that made this country the greatest
in the world. People and the Ad-ministration
talk about "prosperity"
and a "war-on-poverty" in the same
breath, BUT do not tell the peo-ple
that we are living in a fool's
paradise and that we have gone
over $30 billion dollars deeper in
debt in the past four years. No
government has the right to do thi-S
to future generations, except in.
time of war or national emergency.
Unlike some politicians, I T R U ST
the American people. I want to give
them the opportunity of deciding,
and I believe they will decide the
right way. I will be willing to ac-cept
their decision, and not try to
force something down their throats
whether they hke it or not.
