would have included transportation
for students of the Rhame Avenue
School, the East Rockaway High
School, and St. Raymond's School
was turned down. A ruling that two
bus lines cannot operate on the same
route automatically eliminated At-lantic
Avenue in the former plans.
Objections by taxpayers to a public
bus on residential streets was an-other
• important factor in the de-cision.
The proposed route that tlie bus
will follow is as follows: north on
Hewlett Point Avenue, to East
Rockaway Boulevard, east to Baisley
Avenue, north to Main Street, east
to Ocean Avenue, north to the rail-road
station at Davison Plaza. The
same route will be used to return.
Many re.sidents within the area
now designated feel this service is
long overdue. Car pools have facili-tated
transportation problems in
mose cases, but are not available to
everyone.
There has been, however, some
iiomeowners who have expressed op-position
to the proposed line.
The open hearing will give both
sides an opportunity to air their
views.
