Reserves Decision
On Zoning Petition
A petition for special exception
to tlie zoning laws in order to con-struct
a new building on his prop-erty
was made at the Monday eve-ning
meetiag of the Village Board
of Trustees by Moe Werfel, opera-tor
of the ZIM Flying A Service
Station located at the southwest cor-ner
of Sunrise Hgwy. and Broad-way.
Werfel, who has operated the sta-ion
for 36 years proposes to elimi
nate the present structure on his
property for servicing of cars and
build another on proi>erty acquired
at the rear of a luncheonette at 93
Broadway. He stated the new struc-ture
would be to improve his busi-ness
and its appearance.
Village Attorney Anthony J. Scu-deri
stated that although village or-dinances
prohibit the construction
of new gas stations, improvements
could be made on those in existence
before the ordinance were in efiect.
The Board reserved decision lui-til
a full study could be made of the
petiticm.
Lynbrook Elks Memorial Services
The Lynbrook Elks will hold their
Annual Memorial and Tablet Serv-ices
on Sunday, Dec. 8th at 3 p.m.
George F. Boyd, Exalted Ruler of
the Lodge, has appointed Nicholas
T. Pellegrino, Chairman of this func-tion.
The Committee has arranged an
interesting and impressive program
with State Senator Norman F. Lent
making a principal address. The
West-Lyn Choral Group will offer
several choral selections during the
ceremony.
These services which are conduct-ed
by the Officers of tlie Lodge, are
in memoiy of all the members that
have passed into eternity since the
inception of tlie Lynbrook Lodge.
The names of the members that
passed on during the past year will
be inscribed on the Memorial Tablet
in the Lodge rooms.
Host Youth Fellowship
• The Olivet Baptist Church of Val-ley
Stream will be host to the Youth
Fellowships of the Queens-Nassau-
Suffolk area at the Annual B.Y.F,
Vesper Day, Sunday, Dec. 1, 6:30
p.m. The Reverend Jack Lottey of
the Alden Terrace Baptist Chxirch
is the area advisor for the youth
groups. He is in charge of the pro-gram.
Lynbrook A. F. S. Hosts
Eleven Foreign Students
Friday, November 22nd, the day of infamy, the Lynbrook
Chapter of American Field Service hosted eleven foreign stu-dents
at Lynbrook High School.
Starting at seven o'clock in the
morning, students of all nationalities
were being picked up at various
homes throughout Long Island. At
half past eight in the morning, the
American Field Service students
were at Lynbrook High School,
ready to start tlie festivities of the
day.
The yotmg men and women who
were invited met their Lynbrook
hosts in tlie administrative offices of
the school. Vesna Besarabic, Lyn-brook's
, Foreign Student, who is
spending her year in tiie United
States, at the home of Dr. and Mrs.
Ernest Seymour of 8 Bowler Road,
was over-all hostess for the day. The
guests and their hosts are:
Lisbet Anderson of Denmark,
Bruce Thall; Pierre Meyrat of Switz-erland,
Marslia Green; Trond Dokka
of Norway, Claire Joliannsen; Tuba
Orgun of Tiukey, Nancy Glass;
Vaquel Salarzano of Nicaragua;
Sharyn Bahn; Yasuka Amaka of
Japan, Nancy Cummins; Vandane
Bhole of India, Helen Klein; Philo-
7nena Cheng of Singapore, Jonas
Wagner; Jorge Vergas of Uruguay,
Judy Corwin and Chackpandh
Wongburantavate of Thailand, Hazel
Wjeisburst.
The activities were abruptly halt-ed
with the news of the demise of
President John F. Kennedy.
The Lynbrook Chapter of Ameri-can
Field Service joins with the
community in mourning the loss of
this great American. We respectfidly
recall his statement to over 2,000
forcing students congregated on the
lawn of the Wliite House in the
summer of 1962.
" I t is an honor as President of the
United States to welcome you, who

Santa Claus
Is Coming
Santa Claus is coming to town.
And it will be aboard a Lynbrook
fire truck.
Yes, the grand old man of Christ,
mas for the young fry will trim his
flowing wliite beard, brush off his
famous red suit, board a flaming red
fire engine at a secret rendezvous,
and clang into the Earle Ave. park-ing
field at 1 0 : 3 0 a.m. Saturday, Dec.
7 th, where he will be greeted by
village dignitaries, the sponsoring
Chamber of Commerce, and—most
of all—the youngsters of Lynbrook.
There will follow a Grand March
with bands blaring to the Arcade
Theater where cartoons will be
shown and candy distributed in the
august presence and under the
watchful eye of tlie benevolent, be-whiskered
old king of make believe.
We hope you will be there. We
will.
Malverne Hospital Auxiliary
Plans Christmas Party
The Malvenie Auxiliaiy to South
Nassau Communities Hospital will
hold its annual Christmas party at
South Shore Inn, Rockville Centre,
on Monday, Dec. 9, at 12 noon. Mrs.
Charles Moody is chairman of the
affair.
Mrs. Arthur C. Rode, President
of Central Council will uistall the
officers for 1964.
Golden Wedding
Couples to be Honored
Catholic couples from Nassau and
Suffolk C o u n t i e s who celebrated
their 50tli wedding anniversaiy this
year will be honored by the Most
Rev. Walter P. Kcllenberg, Bishop
of the Diocese of Rockville Centre,
at a spc^cial ceremony in St. Agues
Cathedral, Rockville Centre, on
Holy Family Sunday, Jan. 12.
Tlie \'eiy Rev. Msgr. Josc^ph F.
Lawlor, director of the diocesan
Family Life Bureau which is spon-soring
tlie event, said that couples
wishing to participate in the pro-gram
should contact their respective
pastors by Dec. 12.
Last year 7 0 couples were honor-ed
in this special ceremony during
which each couple renewed their
marriage vows and received a spe-cial
blessing from the Bishop.
