Students at Hospital Science Fair
East Rockaway High School students interested in health careers in-spect
the Circ-O-Lectric bed at the recent Science Fair held by South Nas-sau
Communiti^ Hospital. Electrically operated bed which costs $1,000,
is used for p^iiienFs 'sutfSring from paralysis, coma or bums who caii't be
turned by hand. A flip of the switch revolves the two-mattress bed, turns
the patient from back to stomach without apy movement on his part. After
the bed linen is changed; bed is revolved again to restore the patient back
to his original position. Students, left to right, are: Noel Rowland, Susan
Kerr and Janie Mitchell. Demonstrating the bed is Mrs. Ruth A. Powers,
in-service nursing education supervisor at South Nassau Commimities Hos-pital.
V,F.W. Awards Presented
At Joint Installation
The Howard Lathrop Post No. 2307, V.F.W. and its Aux-iliary
held their joint installation of officers on May 18th at their
clubhouse. George Serr was installed commander of the post and
Miss Frances Spinelli took the oath of office to serve as president
of the auxiliary.

Town Acquires Hewlett Point
Beach For Park Site
The Hewlett Point pool and beach has been ac(iuired by the lown of Hempstead as a
result of Supreme Court Condemnation action and will be open for use this Summer, accord-ing
to an announcement by Presiding Supervisor Palmer D. Farrington.
-- Farrington, who reported that final legal technicalities for the purchase of the site had
been completed, added that the Town's Department of Parks would now exert every effort to
put the beach and pool facilities into operating condition just as soon as possible. However, the
locker section, which requires major alterations, will not be available during 1963.

program was the presentation of
a 3()-year pin to Mrs. Thomas San-sone
for continuous membership for
that many years.

from the benefit performance of

Band Concert
The St. Raymond's School Band
will present its Annual Band Con-cert
on Friday evening, June 7 at
8 : 1 5 in the St. Raymond's School
auditorimn. The band members will
wear their new uniforms purchased
earli(>r this year.
The young people are imd(>r the
direction of Sister Maria Martin,
I . I I . M . and Mr. Paul Dahm. A
varied program of selections is i^lan-ned
for the pleasure of the audi-ence.

be operated on a self-sustaining
basis. Season memberships, at a
modest fee, will be available to ri^s-idents
of the unincorporated area
of the Town of Hempstead who
support the Townwide Park Dis-trict
through taxes, and at a higher
fee to residents of incorporated vil-lages
in the Town.
Activities
The Hewlett Point pool and
beach, which is at the southern end
of Hewlett Point Avenue, has a
1,()()() foot beach on Hewlett Bay,
a regvdation swimming pool, 100 l)y
4 0 feet, and a shallow Wading pool
for children.
There will also be basketball
courts, a playground area for chil-dren,
rest rooms, a refreshment
stand and parking facilities. Plans
will be made to provide swimming
instructions for the children dur-ing
the Summer, and a prograuj of
activities will be prepared by the
Town's Department of Parks.
Applications for membership to
the Hewlett Point pool and beach
will be available next month at the
site. Memberships vs'ill be liuuted
in order to avoid over-crowding the
beach area and the swimming pool,
and will be issued on a "first-come, _
first-served" basis.
Rates for 1963 membership arc
now being determined and will be
announced at a later date.
