Bay Cleaned Up
For Frolic
Our Hewlett Bay in the
Grist Mill Museum's Bay
exhibit, has never really been
polluted with anything but
dust and a few spiders wand-ering
around, but last week
a group of young men
guided by Bob Sympson,
committee man, lifted the
boat from the water and
sifted the sand. Then they
put down new "water, then
replaced the clamdigger, in
the bat, ducks horseshoe
crabs and clams to the sand
and water. This exhibit is
being spruced up" for the
June 17th HUCKLEB-ERRY
FROLIC. Other
exhibits that are "in the
works" include "new" (old)
tools room exhibit that will
be named the Tom Reddy's
Tool Shop. Tom, since
passed on, gave many of the
tools to the Museum. Also
our pre-Civil War map
donated by John Bishop, is
being carefully restored and
preserved for the future by
an expert. The map will not
be back until July but was
literally falling apart. It lists
the names and locations of
many homes where early
residents of Near Rockaway
lived.
CLEANING UP THE BAY. David Henner and Damian
Karpawitz help clean up the bay at the Grist Mill. In the
background is the old clamdigger.
DON'T FORGET THE HUCKLEBERRY
FROLIC ON SATURDAY, JUNE 17th.
RESERVE THE DAY FOR ALL THE
FESTIVITIES. THE JUNE 14th ISSUE OF
THE OBSERVER WILL BE A SPECIAL
ISSUE ON THE FROLIC.
