-- 4th CD) has received
the enthusiastic endorse-ment
of every major police
and t ire organization to take
sides in the campaign for the
F o u r t h C o n g r e s s i o ns
District.
"1 am gratified by the wide
range of support that my
r e e l e c t i o n e f f o r t has
received," stated Congress-man
Lent, who has repies-ented
his South Shore dis-trict
for the past 18 years.
" T h e s e o r g a n i z a t i o n s
represent the men and
women that I serve in
Washington, and 1 am
proud to enjoy their confi-dence
and support."
Citing his strong stand on
law and order, every major
Police and Fire Organiza-tion
making a choice urged
their members to cast their
ballots for Congressman
Lent on Election Day,
November 8th. These organ-izations
include:
• T h e Nassau County
Patrolmen's Benevolent
Association
• The Suffolk County
Police Conference
• The Patrolmen's Benev

New York City Iransit
Police Department
• The Detective's Associ-ation

"1 am especially proud to
have the support of those
men and women who have
spent their lives protecting
our f a m i l i e s and our
homes," Lent continued.
"Throughout my 18 years in
the House, 1 have tried to
make their task easier by
passing legislation that
imposes strict penalties on
repeat offenders, so that the
revolving door of justice gets
slammed shut on criminal."
In mid-October, Con-gressman
Lent voted in
favor of a comprehensive
drug bill that among other
provisions employs the
death penahy for drug king-pins
who commit a murder
in the course of a drug-related
offense, in addition,
the new bill calls for penal-ties
against recreational
drug users, such as the loss
of driver's licenses and
g o v e r n m e n t s u b s i d i z ed
loans.
"Our police and fire offic-ers
are owed a debt of grati-tude
for the work that they
have done for us," Con-gressman
Lent concluded.
"You may be sure that 1 will
c o n t i n u e to work in
Washington for tougher
laws and stiffer penalties so
that crimes may be pre-vented
before they are
committed."

Tax Rate Increase Slashed
Residents in the Lyn-brook
School District were
treated to some good news
when Superintendent Bern
Seiderman make it known
that the additional tax
increase was only $2.05
instead of the estimated
$3.05. Delighted by the
decrease. Dr. Seiderman
cites creative management
by Assistant Supierintendent
for Business William Met-kiff,
prudence by the Admin-istration
and Board of Edu-cation,
and approved
assessments by state
legislators.
Lynbrook, which some
years ago had the sixth high-est
tax rate in the county,
and last year was eighth, is
currently 15th in the
stwdings.
on this great day by per-forming
one extra mainte-nance
task ~ perhaps an
extra sweep of your side-walk
or pulling out
unwanted weeds from in
front of your store, or a
change of a window display,
etc.
A tidy Village is to eve-ryone's
advantage. Let's all
work together to make East
Rockaway an even better
place in which to live, work
and shop.
