Rocks To Celebrate Homecoming
HELPING CHRIS. At the Benefit Softball Game for para-lyzed
Lynbrook resident Chris Tranquellino, which was
held back in June, hero New York City Police Officer Steven
McDonald was on hand to add support to this benefit for
Chris. Joining them are left to right, Mayor William P.
Geier, and Trustees Eugene Natale and Steve Grogan. Trus-tee
Grogan, Co-Chairman of this Lynbrook Week event,
reminds residents that the fund for Chris will soon be dosed •
and anyone who has not contributed to Chris' fund can do so
by mailing a contribution to the Christopher Tranquellino
Fund, c / o Village Hall, One Columbus Drive, Lynbrook,

it's still not too late to
help the Rocks celebrate
Homecoming as the Rocks
meet Jericho on the gridiron
at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday,
October 15, 1988, at Her-manson
Field at East Rock-away
High School to begin
the festivities for Homecom-ing
1988.
Telephone reservations,
however, are requested for
the Gala Homecoming
Celebration starting at 5
p.m. at the Main Street
Firehouse even for those
alumni and other Rock sup-porters
planning to pay at
the door. Telephone Genie
Kubat at 599-5627 to make
your reservations.
"Come home, alumni!" is
the call being issued by the
East Rockaway High
School Alumni Association
for the events of the day.
First of course is the Annual
Homecoming Football
Game. Donations will once
again be sought at the game
for the Louis Cosenza
Memorial Fund.
Alumni Homecoming
Chairmen Genie Kubat and
Ed Carey have announced
details of the Gala Home-coming
Celebration which
will follow the game from 5

The
October
Glancing Back and
Looking Ahead
by Mildred Roemer
"1988 was a great year!"
commented many members
of the Grist Mill Committee
at a recent meeting. Of
course, 1988 isn't exactly
over, but planning for the
summer season usually beg-ins
late in March wheii ideas
lor the Frolic are swirling
around preparing for the
opening of the Museum on
Memorial Day and continu-ing
until Labor Day when
the doors close and exhibits
are "put to bed" for the chil-lier
months.
It was a great slice ol the
year 1988 with the celebra-tion
ol the 300th birthday of
the old building. Numerous
meetings were held and the
local organizations, clubs,
churches and schools all out
did themselves to make the
lestivites a great success.
Yes, 1988 was a great year!
However, due to the
financial success ol the
Anniversary Program, there
will be some updating and
extra work put in lor the
museum during the Fall and
Winter in preparation lor
the 1989 opening.
The lool display has
almost become a "catch all"
lor donations ol just old and
lare tools, without much
rhyme or reason in their
arrangment. ";Bob Symp-son
of the Museum Com-mittee
is contacting experts
in the field of antique tools
to advise better displays and
having more signs so that
the uniformed visitors may
become more informed. The
Bay exhibit, which was one
of the first to be set up back
in the early sixties, will have
fresh "water" for the old
fisherman to sail his boat on
and the sand replaced. Cat-tails
and rushes will be
added and, perhaps a spo-tlight
put on the old fisher-man.
ifallgoesas planned, a
senior Boy Scout and a
group of helpers from I'roop
332 of St. Raymond Church
will be doing most of the
work. Showcases will be
changed and updated, and
during the cold winter ladies
of the committee will be
identifying and marking
gowns and uniforms stored
in the Senior Citizen's
House. All this and more.
Much of this enthusiasm
has been inspired by the
wonderful cooperation and
work of East Rockawayites
during our 300th Centennial.

may return their
Village survey has been
extended, according to
Mayor William P. Geier.
In an effort to better
understand the views of
the taxpayers and res-idents
of Lynbrook, the
Village Board sent a
survey outlinifig six
proposals currently un-der
consideration by the
Board. All residents
were asked to rate the
projects according to
their importance, to
give the Board direction
for the coming fiscal
year.
Although most res-idents
have received
their surveys, which
were mailed from the
Lynbrook Post Office on
September 14, 1988,
mansome residents have
indicated that their
survey vyas not del-ivered.
With this in
mind, the Village Board
has decided to extend
the October 15, 1988,
deadline until October
22.1988.
Any resident who
has not received his
survey is asked to call
Village Hall at (516) 599-
8300 immediately.

the 1988 Homecoming Gala
Celebration on October 15
can be directed to Genie
Kubat, 36. Birch Street,
Lynbrook, NY 11563 (599

are suggested because
of the closeness of the
October 15 date.
Louis
Cosenza
Game
The tradition continues,
as the East Rockaway
Rocks football team play in

were not only limited to
teaching and coaching.
Please turn out to support
not only the Rocks, but the 2
Student Athlete Scholar-ships
that are given to a
deserving boy and girl.
This is in conjunction
with the Alumni Homecom-ing,
but if you cannot attend
the game you may mail your
donation to the East Rock-away
High School, Ocean
Ave., East Rockaway, N.Y.

Make your checks pay-able
to the Cosenza Scholar-ship
Fund.
