ENGINE COMPANY HONORS SIX. Lynbrook Engine
Company Number One recently paid tribute to six of its
members who have attained the plateau of serving the Vil-lage
of Lynbrook for twenty-five years as firemen. They
were guests of honor at a dinner-dance held at the Coral
House, Baldwin. Captain George Rochford (left) presents a
twenty-five year plaque to Bob CitKovic as the other hono-rees

No, not our ghost, Dave
Push, but the voices of old-timers,
(several of whom
have passed on) may now be
heard weekends in the Grist
Mill Museum at Woods
Avenue.
Rober Sympson, Museum
committee member and
teacher in the Valley Stream
school system, has designed
boxes to hold the individual
cassette players at most of
the exhibits so that a press of
the "on" button will give an
explanation of what the
exhibit is all about. For
instance, the voices of the

Lynbrook Police Department Report
Chief Lauriano, Police
Officer Fusswinkel and the
Lynbrook Police Depart-ment
remind residents to be
especially careful when deal-ing
with contactors, sales-men,
and door to door home ,
improvement vendors.
Recently, a local resident
was conned out of almost
$3000.00 when 2 individuals
going door to door in her
neighborhood offered to
clean her leaders and gutters
for only $30.00. The resident
agreed and hired the men.
Subsequently, the men told
the lady that her roof was
leaking and needed repair to
prevent serious darnage to
the house. The men said that
they could repair and seal
the roof for $2650.00 The
resident agreed and one of
the men even escorted her to
the bank so that they could
be paid in cash. Upon their
return to the house from the
bank the men said that the
work had been completed
and the lady paid them in
cash. The men quickly left
and the resident realized
that she had forgotten to get
a receipt. When she took a
close look at the work, she
realized that the men had
only painted over the roof
shingles with some white
paint.
The Lynbrook .Police
urge all residents to check
for licenses and references
all home repair and
improvement contractors
the homeowner may be
thinking of hiring. In addi-tion,
if a person is soliciting
business door to door in
Lynbrook, he or she must
have a permit filed with Vil-lage
Hall. Additionally,
if you become aware
that a person who is acting
in this suspicious manner is
soliciting in your neighbor-,
hood, contact the Lynbrook
Police Department at 599-
3300. Police will respond,
check for a permit, and ask
the contractor or solicitor
for identification.
National Night Out
The Lynbrook Police-
Department reminds resi-dents
that Tuesday August
9, 1988 is National Night
Out. This nationwide crime
prevention awareness pro-'
gram sponsored by the
National Town Watch
Association and locally by
the Lynbrook Police
Department is being con-ducted
in over 7000 munici-palities
all over the United
States.
Residents of Lynbrook
are reminded to turn on
their outside lights, lock
their doors, and come out
and meet their neighbors..
The program stresses mak-ing
a commitment to watch
out for neighbors homes and
report suspicious persons
and vehicles to the police.
For further information
concerning National Night
Out, tune in to Channel 12A
on Lynbrook Adams Rus-sell
Cablevision to find out
the time a television show
concerning night out in
Lynbrook for 1988 will be
aired. The program features
comments by Lynbrook
Police Officer Fred Fuss-winkel,
the Departments
Crime Prevention Officer,
Mike Kostyra and Marion
Johnson, coordinators of
the Vincent Place and Burtis
Street Neighborhood Watch
Groups. For additional
information, residents may
contact officer Fusswinkel
at 599-3300.
Old Voices
Heard In
Museum
concerning the old Woods
Avenue School that stood
on the site of the present
Museum. Gene Torborg
relates how the Fire
Department was started and
the late Carrie Craft (who
lived to be 107) tells a bit
about the Home Life
Exhibit.
There are several "bugs"
that have to be worked out
of the system and guests will
have to be patient until these
are corrected. The voices
were recorded from what
was a "Talk Tour" with
short stories. The present
tapes run for six minutes
each , so there is a delay
between repeats of the audio
or a repeat on each so there
will be no "dead" spaces.
Have patience! We're try-ing
and aiming towards
perfection.
in the meantime the
EAST ROCKAWAY GRIST
MILL MUSEUM 1688-88
Anniversary booklet is sel-ling
well. It shows pictures
of how the Mill was moved
and also photos of present-day
exhibits. These, along
with the limited supply of
Anniversary plates, may be
purchased at the Museum
weekends and in the Village
Hall during the week.
