East Rockaway
Action Party President
William Kelleher today
announced the selection
of the party's nomin-ating
committee. The
five member committee
will select candidates for
Party and Village office;
its report will be pre-sented
to the full
membership in Sep-tember.
1988.
In accordance with
the Party's newly
adopted by-laws, which
were enacted under the
leadership of President
Kelleher and Vice Pres-ident
Martin Evans, the
Board of Directors met
on June 20th to elect 3
of the 5 members of the
Committee. Four Vil-

suggested for member-ship
on the committee,
and after a secret ballot
by the directors present,
John Roberts, Eugene
Torborg and Olive
Mulligan were elected
to serve. President
Kelleher, following the
by-law provisions,
named Edward Malone
and Richard Meagher as
the committee's two
remaining members.
Kelleher designated Mr.
Meagher to serve as
Committee Chairman.

Lynbrook Week cele-bration,
Awards Night
was held at Village Hall
on Monday evening,
June 20, 1988. The
awards for Man and
Woman of the Year
went to Lynbrook Police
Officer Fred Fusswinkle
for his work as the
driving force behind
P.R.I.D.E., the Police
Department's crime pre-vention
program, and
Agnes Gogol, President
of 2 senior citizen
organizations, including
the Senior Citizens Club
of Lynbrook. They were
selected by the Lyn-brook
Week Committee
for their exceptional
and dedicated com-munity
service. Officer
Fusswinkle thought he
was present for the
"Just Say No" Poster
Contest, and thanked
the Committee and his
Chief for the award. He
stated, "The success is a
credit to the whole
Village." Agnes Gogol
added, "All I want is for
the seniors to be happy.
Hove them all!"
Mayor William Geier
presented plaques to
students who were prize
winners in the "Say No
To Drugs" contest. Pre-sent
were Chris Rom-arine
of Lynbrook
Middle School, who was
the top prize winner;
Tara Scarlett of Lyn-brook
North Middle
School, third place; and
Jimmy Marr from Our
Lady of Peace School,
fourth place. All
received enthusiastic
applause from the
audience. Not present
were second prize
winner Con Sullivan,
f i f th place winner
Aimee Raagas and sixth
place winner Chris
Relsmaier, all of Our
Lady of Peace School.
Beautification awards
were given to four area

The members of the East
Rockaway Village Board
met on Monday, June 13,
1988 at the Village Hall at
8:30 pm.
A resolution was adopted
to change parking condi-tions
along Donald Place.
Several residents were on
hand to express support for
the resolution and to
encourage strict enforce-ment
of the new regulations.
The resolution is expected to
provide for an additional 10
parking spaces with parking
available for up to 6 hours.
Lt. Metten of the Fourth
Precinct reported on the fol-lowing
activities for the
month of May: 5 arrests,
including 1 DWI, 1 grand
larceny, 1 burglary in the
third degree, 1 petit larceny
and I assault in the third
degree; 83 moving and 231
parking summonses issued;
4 major crimes, all being
burglary to residences; 13
accidents with 2 injuries.
The Fire Department's
report indicated that there
were 40 rescue calls, 3 mut-ual
aid rescue calls, 10 gen-eral
alarms, 7 still alarms, 2
investigations, 8 training
s e s s i o n s , I parade, I
department inspection, and
3 pump tests. The Auxiliary
Police noted that they
served 237 man-hours for
the month of May.
The Department of Pub-lic
Works reported collec-tion
of 841 tons of garbage
and 66 tons of rubbish, and
sweeping of 125 miles of
street. Superintendent Oene
Torborg was commended
for the fin? work done by his
men in preparing Memorial
Park for the 300th Anniver-

The Cultural Arts
Council of the Village of
East Rockaway is proud
to sponsor "A Sparkling
Evening of Musical
Americana" on Sunday,
July 10. 1988, from 8 to
10 pm in Memorial Park,
located on Atlantic
Avenue in East Rock-away.
For their listening
comfort, patrons are
asked to bring their own
lawn chairs or picnic
blankets.
also serves as President
of the East Rockaway
High School Alumni
Association. Mr.
Meagher was a driving
force behind the
recently successful
"Phantoms of the Grist
Mill" production. Mr.
Meagher is the Dean of
Continuing Education at
the Fashion Institute of
Technology.
Edward Malone
brings a host of
credentials to this
important assignment.
He is a long-time Village
resident who has
devoted his energies to
a number of our
community's civic, frat-ernal
and charitable
causes. He is currently
employed as a Vice
President with the
American Express Com-pany.
John Roberts, who
currently serves as
Action Party Treasurer,
is also a long-time
Village resident. He Is
an active member of the
East Rockaway Fire
Department and has
served as Captain of the
department's Floodlight
Unit. Mr. Roberts is a
former member of the
East Rockaway Demo-cratic
Committee, and is
the Treasurer of the East
Rockaway Firemen's
Exempt Association.
Eugene Torborg is a
former Village Trustee
who has served on the
Action Party Board of
Directors for many
years. Over the past few
years, he has served on
several Action Party
nominating committees.
Mr. Torborg is an Ex-
Chief of the East
Rockaway Fire Depart-ment,
and is the owner
of Torborg's East
Rockaway Garage,
located on Davison
Plaza.
Olrve Mulligan Is
one of the founders of
the East Rockaway
Action Party. She has
served on the Village's
Board of Zoning
Appeals for 20 years.

Lions Club annual Pancake Breakfast which was held
recently at St. James Methodist Church. Joining them, from

Lester Forest, and Myran Jacobsen, outgoing
