Eugene Natale Appointed Trustee
MATHLETE CHAMPIONS - Principal Gary Rugg
anounces that the Lynbrook South Middle School Eighth
Grade mathiete team has won the Nassau County Junior
Mathlete Championship for 1988. After fmishing in second
place last year, Mr. Rugg pointed out that this year's team
outscored 50 other middle shcoo! teams in the county over
five events to capture first place.
Members of the Board of Education presented medals and a
trophy to Ari Bemran, Howard Fetner, Andrew Knobloch,
Anthony Lombardo, Alex Nakis, Thomas Pasniewski,
Anthony Peritore, James Rucker, Adam Shestack, John
Sweeney, Farrfa Trompeter, Mathew Wecksell and Philip
Zukor. The faculty advisor is Thomas Hedgecock.
Memorial Day Parade
The East Rockaway
Memorial Day Parade will
be held on Monday, May
30th at 10 am sharp. All
units will assembly at 9:30
am, and the route will be as
follows: Main Street to
Ocean Avenue, up Ocean to
Centre Avenue, west to
Atlantic Avenue and then
back to Memorial Park.

The appointment of a new
Village Trustee and a new
Acting Village Justice high-lighted
the Lynbrook Board
of Trustees Meeting held at
Village Hall, Monday, at 8
p.m. May 16, 1988.
Mayor Bill Geier gave a
brief biography of new Trus-tee
Gene Natale, former Act-ing
Village Justice and also,
Michael Coleman. They
were both approved by
unanimous vote of the
Board and sworn into office
with hearty applause from
those present. Later, Village
Justice John O'Connor pub-licly
thanked Gene Natale
and praised him for his fine
work as Acting Village Jus-tice.
The appointments
become effective at the next
June Board Meeting when
Trustee Natale, who repla-ces
retired Leo Lanning will
take his place on the Board.
The regional Director of
the New York State Dept. of
Environmental Conserva-tion
along with Park Ranger
Dave Sinclair presented
Mayor Geier with a special
five year award and the Tree
City flag for Lynbrook's fine
record of tree conservation
and planting of new trees in
honor of National Arbor
Day.
A donation of $50 was
received from the St. Mary's
Knights of Columbus for
Lynbrook's Crime Preven-tion
Program with the
Mayor mentioning other
donations for the program
already received from frat-ernal
clubs etc.
A request from St.
Raymond's Human Life
Committee to hold a Garage

has passed and a new trus-tee,
Elaine Boll, has been
elected to the Board of Edu-cation,
election time is not
yet over at East Rockaway
Junior/Senior High School.
Students Council elec-tions
will take place on
Tuesday, May 31, through
out the school day for all
students. In order to run for
a Student Council office, a
student was required to get
the support of 100 students
who were willing to sign a
petition on that candidate's
behalf. As a result of the
GULOTTA ATTENDS VOLUNTEERS CELEBRA-TION:
Nassau County Executive Thomas S. Gulotta, (cen-ter),
attended the Volunteers Celebration of the Nassau
County Youth Board. The Nassau County Comprehensivce
Planning Committee for Youth Services and the Youth
Participation Project work in conjunction with the Nassau
County Youth Board to provide services for the youth of our
County. The Celebration was recently held at the Nassau
County Bar Association.
Volunteers were presented with Certificates of Accomp-lishment
on behalf of their outstanding volunteer efforts.

Meagher, Kathleen O'Hara,
Padmine Persaud and
Henry Zabarsky.
Students will deliver their
campaign speeches to an
assembly of the entire school
on the morning of Friday,
May 27. On Tuesday, May
31, Social Studies teachers
will escort their classes to the
voting area where students
will get their first experience
in electing officers by using
an official election booth.

an effective Student Council
next school year that will be
representing the_voice of the
student body.

Mayor Geier announced
that the Board had granted
the request for a Special
Exception fro 183 Atlantic
Ave, formerly Capt. Steve's
for a 14 unit condominium
with the provisions that the
building be no more than 30
ft. in height and also have a
proper landscaping plan
which they miist submit to
the Board.
A previous ordinance
designating Highway Auto
Collision the right to tow
away etc. impounded vehi-cles
was changed to include
the firm of Talley-Ho, Inc.
which will also have the
right to handle impounded
vehicles.
Bids were opened and
read surplus equipment,
namely one 1968 D.P.W.
Dump Truck with one bid,
$400 and the other $500 and
they will be turned over to
the D.P.W. for further eva-luation
and decision.
Bids for the maintenance
and repair of police and fire
vehicles were opened with
rates of $36 an hr. and labor
costs of 25% over costs for
parts from Farmmar Inc. of
Valley Stream. The bid will
be turned over to both the
D.P.W. and Police Chief
Fr^nk Lauriano for further
evaluation. Another bid
from C7 R Fire Apparatus
Co. of Bohemia, N.Y. for
work on Fire Dept. vehicles
quoted a price of $48 per
hour and parts replaced at
40% over costs. Trud Ser-vice
of Oceanside submitted
a Bid of $42.50 per hour with
a mark-up on parts of 20%
over costs and no charge for
pick-up and delivery of
vehicles.
The date of June 13th at a
Board Meeting was set for a
Public hearing on Electric
Meter Permits.
The Board approved the
cost of Engineering Retainer
Services for Cameron Engi-neers,
the official Village
engineers at a fee of $2,000
per month with Mayor
Geier explaining that it was
more economical this way.
Under Good and Welfare,
Trustee Steve Grogan
announced the list of events
for Lynbrook Week which
runs from June 19-26 with
Frank Tranquelino as the
beneficiary of funds raised
in the Dobeheader Softball
Games during the week
which will be used for a
much needed chair lift for
Frank who is paralyzed and
confined in a wheel chair to
his room.
Trustee Grogan also men-tioned
the special Lynbrook
Crime Prevention Day com-ing
on Day at Greis Park
listing the events to be held
and inviting the public to
attend.
The Board retired to
Executive Session at an
early hour.
