Local Assistance Program
Nassau County Executive
Thomas S. Gulotta today
announced that the Coun-
Judicial Slate Named
"Uniquely qualified" were
the words used by Nassau
County Republican Chair-man
Joseph N. Mondello in
endorsing the candidacy of
Oyster Bay Supervisor
Joseph Colby for Justice of
t h e New York State
Supreme Court during the
Tenth Judicial District
Nominating Convention
held on Tuesday, Septetfiber
22.
"Joe brings with him a
blend of legal and govern-mental
experience that will
give him a solid foundation
as a Supreme Court Jus-tice,"
asserted Mondello.
"He is uniquely qualified to
serve as a Justice of this dis-tinguished
court."
Supervisor Colby has
served as Oyster Bay Super-visor
since 1977 being
elected five times to the
s u p e r v i s o r ' s post. Colby
brings with him an extensive
legal background on several
levels of government as well
as 27 years as an attorney in
private practice.
Since 1975 to 1977 he held
the post of Oyster Bay Town
Attorney, the town's chief
legal officer, a former
member of the Nassau
County Board of Assessors,
Colby also served as legal,
counsel to the Oyster Bay

ty's proposed 1988 local
assistance program, which
provides sales tax revenues
to the County's composite
Towns and Cities, will pro-vide
a record breaking total
of 31.9 million in 1988.
Gulotta indicated that the
proposed 1988 revenues
were $3.6 million higher
than comparable revenues
in 1987.
"Under our plan, the
revenues generated by 1/4%
of the sale tax revenues in
Nassau County will con-tinue
to be tunneled back to
the County's three Towns
and two Cities to help hold
the line on property taxes
and to aid in resolving solid
waste disposal problems,"
Gulotta said. "I am deligh-ted
that we were able to
implement a 1988 local
assistance program which
offer an unsurpassed total of
revenues to our Town and
Cities."
Gulotta explained that
the higher local assistance
program was made possible
by several factors:
* Actual reconciliation of
1986 sales tax payments
* A 7% budget growth for
1987 in sales tax revenues
* An anticipated growth
of 7.5% in sales tax revenues
for 1988.
Under the Gulotta pro-gram,
the 1988 local assist-ance
