Village Board Reports
East Rockaway
LIONS HELP SUSAN. Lions' Club President, Clarey Mat-zen,
center, presents a very generous check to Lynbrook
Mayor William P. Geier and Trustee and Lynbrook Week
Co-Chairman, Stephan T. Grogan, for the Susan Mueller
Fund. This is the Lions' Club second check to the Fund.
Susan, a volunteer firefighter, who has gone blind in both
eyes, is the beneficiary of the Lynbrook Week Benefit Soft-ball
Game against Jim Jenson to be held on Friday, June
26th, at Greis Park. Residents who cannot attend the game
can send a contribution to the Inc. Village of Lynbrook,
Susan Mueller Fund, One Columbus Drive, Lynbrook,
N.Y. 11563. Lynbrook Week will be celebrated from June
21st to 28th.
Gold Awards
Laura Ellen Shafer and
Julie Elizabeth Barnett
received their Gold Awards
from Girl Scouts of Nassau
County on May 20th, 1987
in Garden City, New York.
The Gold Award in Girl
Scouting is equivalent to the
Eagle Award in Boy Scouts.
Laura, a Senior at Lyn-brook
High Schgol, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
David Shafer, of Lynbrook.
Julie, a Junior at South Side
High School, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bar-nett,
of Rockville Centre.
Both girls are members of
Girl Scout Older Girl Troop
4007, which meets at St.
James United Methodist
Church in Lynbrook. Lead-ers
of the troop are Grace
and David Shafer.
On Friday evening, June
the 5th, at 8 P.M., a Gold
Award Recognition Cerem-ony
was held, followed by
refreshments, at United
Church of Rockville Centre.
After the presentation of
the colors and the Pledge of
Allegiance, Mrs. Marilyn
Homes, Rockville Centre
Coordinator of Association
Volunteers, introduced both
girls and their parents. The
invocation was by The
Reverend William A. Quick,
pastor of United Church of
Rockville Centre.
A candlelight ceremony
was conducted by ELLM
Older Girl Troop 4007, fol-lowed
by a closing poem
read by Mrs. Margaret
Ricioppo, ol Lynbrook,
ELLM Coordinator of
Association of Volunteers.
The benediction was by The
Reverend Robert Rich-mond
of St. James United
Methodist Church, Lynbrook.
Julie and Laura received
the following commenda-tions
and congratulatory
messages:
Certificates were received
from President Reagan;
Vice President George Bush
sent congratulatory letters;
citations and letters were
received from Girl Scouts
USA President, Betty Pils-bury;
certificates of merit
were received from Gover-nor
Cuomo; citations for
meritorious service were
received from the American
Legion Scouting Commit-tee;
citations were received
from Mr. Thomas Gulotta,
County Executive, Nassau
County; Senator Dean Ske-los
presented the girls with
achievement awards; Sena-tor
D'Amato sent the girls
congratulatory letters; Mr.
John Zimmerman, of the

of East Rockaway was
held on Mondav, June 8,
1987, at 8:30pm,'in the Vil-lage
Hall. I'resent were
Mayor Irving F. Shaw,
Deputy Mayor Anthony
Santino, Trustees George
Perry, Charles Formont and
Arnold White, as well as
Attorney John Pittoni.
The Pledge of Allegiance
was led by Trustee Formont.
Report of Police Depart-ment:
The. Nassau County
Police Department Report
for the Month of May 1987
was read by Police Officer
Laibach as follows: 1 1
arrests, 2 leaving the scene of
the accident, 2 DWls', 2
petite larceny, 1 harassment,
1 possession of illegal wea-pons,
1 violation of conser-vation
law (loaded shotgun
in motor vehicle, I criminal
mischief 3rd degree and I
VTL violation; 126 moving
violations, 213 parking vio-lations;
1 burglary residence
and 27 accidents with 15
injuries. Robert McTagueof
the East Rockaway Recrea-tion
Commission addressed
the Board with reprd to
adolescents entering the
John Street complex in the
late evening, littering and
generally behaving in a
"nuisance" manner. Police
Officer Laibach recom-mended
that "timers be
installed on the light poles in
the complex from dusk until
midnight". Mayor Shaw
commented that of the 27
accidents occurring on Vil-lage
Streets, 21 occurred on
3 thoroughfares: 10 on
Atlantic, 5 on Main and 6 on
Ocean. Mayor Shaw asked
that surveillance be increased.
With no further comments
on the report. Deputy
Kiwanis To Sponsor Bus Trip
The East Rockaway
Kiwanis Club has announced
that it will sponsor a bus trip
to Resorts International
Club and Casino in Atlantic
Citv, New Jersey on Sun-day,
July 27, 1987.
The b IS will depart from
the park iig lot located at the
corner o Denton and Atlan-tic
Aven 0, East Rockaway,
just opp' site Nat west USA
bank, promptly at 10:00
AM. The cost of the trip is
$20 per person, which
includes the following give-backs:
$7.50 in quarters,
$2:50 in food, and $5 in
deferred coupons.

Lynbrook
Mayor Santino made a
move that the report be
accepted as presented. Trus-tee
Perry seconded the
m o t i o n . Motion was
carried.
The minutes of the May
28 meeting were received, it
was moved by Trustee
Perry, seconded by Trustee
White that the minutes be
accepted and placed on file.
Motion was carried.
Report of Village Attor-ney:
Mr. Pittoni reported on
"certiorari" proceedings
indicting that the Zoro-aster/
Eastchester proceed-ing
is still pending and nego-tiations
continue with a
proposed trial date in Sep-tember
1987. Mayor Shaw
summarized the certiorari
ligitations for the benefit of
those attending.
The Building Department
report was read by Supt.
Weitman.
It was learned from the
Library Report that there
has been a "drop in circula-t
i o n " . Mayor Shaw
requested that the Library
director be contacted in an
effort to ascertain the rea-sons
for such a drop.
Youth Board Report:
Martha Yoswein, chairman
of the Youth Board, sum-marized
the activities spon-sored
by the Youth Board,
stating that the program
schedule for the summer
would be from 7:00pm to
10:00pm on Fridays and

On Parade
The East Rockaway Fire
Department will host the 4th
Battalion Parade and Drill
on Saturday and Sunday,
June 27 and 28, 1987.
The parade will be held on
Saturday, June 27th, begin-ning
at 6:00 PM at Baisley
Avenue and will continue
down Main Street to Front
Street, and then on to Fifth
Avenue.
The- drill will begin on
Sunday, June 28th, at 1:00
PM at the complex located
at Fifth Avenue and Willi-amson
Street.
Food and beverages will
be available. You can help
the East Rockaway Fire
Department host the 4th
Battallion Parade and Drill
through your attendance
and by making the event a
tremendous success.

There was a small turnout
of residents in attendance at
the Lynbrook Board of
T r u s t e e s Meeting held
Monday evening at 8 p.m. at
Village Hall. Departmental
Reports were not read due
to the agenda but approved
and placed on file.
Mayor Bill Geier accepted
an award, a plaque from the
Long Island Recreation
Parks and Leisure Associa-tion,
for excellence in design
for the Children's Play-ground
at Greis Park all
done by "in-house" village
d e p a r t m e n t s such as
D.p.W., Building Dept. and
Recreation. The bid for the
construction from outside
firms was $135,000 and it ,
was completed at the cost of
the equipment: $28,000.
Mayor Geier praised work
done by Supt. Bruno Arena,
Building Department,
Recreation Director Dick
Flynn and the D.P.W. He
reported that construction
will start soon on new
equipment for th£ Remsen
Avenue and Peninsula
Blvd. Playground.
Trustee Steve Grogan
outlined each scheduled
event for Lynbrook Week,
June 21-28th, and he urged
people to attend various
events and fly The Flag all
week for the community
celebration.
Mayor Geier presented a
Citation to Charles Speacht
of Liberty Mutual Insurance
Co., 444 Merrick Road for
their 75 Anniversary. Mr.
Speacht expressed the
thanks of the firm and stated
that Liberty has been in the
village 38 years and employs
550 local people.
The continuation of the
Public Hearing on rezoning
6 Scranton Ave. nears a final
settlement as the Board has
received the initial docu-ments
in regard to the sale of
the property by B.A.S.
Development Corp. to Mr.
Ed Sisko, owner of Ed's
Aquarium, with the proviso
that it will remain a two-family
dwelling for a period
of 5 years. The Stipulation is
in the Contract of Sale. The
continuation of the Public
Hearing was approved by
the Board until the middle of
September when the closing
contract will be signed
Mayor Geier stated thai
the real problem is too much
traffic congestion on Scran-ton
and Horton Avenues
and Sunrise Highway. He
stated that Sunrise Highway
traffic is controlled by New
York State and they gener-ally
do not act on traffic
complaints, while Scranton
and Horton Avenues are
traffic controlled by Nassau
County and they are usually
very cooperative.
A Public Hearing on
Lynbrook's Nassau County
Consortium Requests was
next on the agenda. Village
Clerk Shirley Moskowitz
read the itemized list of
money requested for Senior
Citizens and Handicapped,
including $185,000 for
reconstruction of the Park-ing
Field into the Recreation
