Judge Thorp Receives Lent Award
County Court Judge John
S. Thorp, Jr. was the 1986
recipient of the Judge Nor-man
F. Lent Memorial
^ Award . of. :.The , Criminal
Courts Bar Association of
Nassau County. Association
President Theodore W.
Robinson announced that
the presentation was
made at the Association's
Thirtieth Annual Dinner-
Dance, held on March
7th at the Crest tellow
Country Club.
The award, which is pres-ented
annually, was estab-lished
in memory of Judge
Lent to honor his many
years of distinguished ser-vice
as a member of the Nas-sau
County Judiciary. Judge
Lent was also the father of
Congressman Norman F.
Lent.
Judge Thorp has served as
a County Court Judge since

just now, but the March
winds did no keep many
away last week from the first
Frolic meeting at Village
Hall.
John D. Krull, this year's
chairman, conducted the
meeting and those who were
present gave in their sugges-tions
for their booths.
Representatives who signed
up included the Kiwanis
Club (John's organization)
the American Legion, the
P . T . A . s , H o m e m a k e r s,
Republican and Democratic
Clubs, the Holy Name
Society, Bethany's Mens
a n d Womens Groups,
Laurie Sudowitz repres-ented
the E.R. Youth Coun-cil

Arts Council will be in
charge of entertainment
with Vincent Christiano as
advisor. Vinnie is recovering
from a serious accident. His
wife, Gloria, is searching for
a pony cart ride to take the
place of the one that used to
come Irom Brooklyn, but is
no longer available. Know

Looks like we're off and
Nominating petitions lor
seats [2] on the Board of
Education of the East
Rockaway Union Free
School District are now
available in the District
Office located in the East
Rockaway High School.
At this year's election,
scheduled for Tuesday. May
13, 1986 at the East Rocka-way
High School, there will
be two seats on the Board of
Education to be filled as
follows:
1. To elect one number of
the Board of Education to
fill the office of Carol Burris,
which term expires, June 30,
1986, for a new term com-mencing
July 1, 1986 and
expiring June 30, 1989.
2.To elect one member of
Board of Education to fill
the office of Richard
M e a g h e r , which term
expires June 30, 1986, for a
new term commencing July
J, 1986 and expiring June
30, 1989.
All Board positions are to
be voted on an at-large basis
The Two candidates each
receiving the highest total
individual votes will be
elected for the full three year
term.
1976. Before ascending the
bench he was a Member of
the New York State Assem-bly
for 12 years where he
served as Chairman of the
Assembly Judiciary Com-mittee.
He maintained an
active law practice for over
25 years prior to becoming a
judge and is a member of the
New York State and Nassau
County Bar Associations as
well as of the Catholic Law-yers
Guild. He is also a Fel-low
of the New York Bar
Foundation. He and his
wife, Dolores, who reside in
Rockville Centre, are the
parents of three grown
children and have three
grandchildren.

Cancer Support Program
Computer System Operational
This spring, fhe Cancer
Support Program at Penin-sula
Counseling Center will
offer three community ser-vice
workshops of interest to
cancer patients, their fami-lies
and friends. Designated
as the Normal Trattner
Memorial Workshops, the
series will feature physicians
prominent in the oncology
field as well as social
workers experienced in
counseling cancer patients
and their families.
The f i r s t w o r k s h o p,
"Breast Cancer in Nassau
County: A High Risk
Community," will be held
on Tuesday, March 25 at 8
p.m. at the Five Towns
Senior Center, 124 Franklin
Place, Woodmere, Panelists
include Ezra Greenspan,
M.D., Clinical Professor of
Medicine at Mount Sinai
Hospital, New York City
and Joan Beder, C.S.W.,
Coordinator of the Cancer
Support Program at Penin-sula
Counseling Center.
Audience discussion will fol-low
the panelists' presentai-ons.
The second workshop,
"New Treatments in Cancer
Care" is scheduled for Tues-day,
April 8, at 8 p.m., and
the third workshop, "Psy-chological
Aspects of the
Diagnosis of Cancer" wilji be
held on Tuesday, April 22,
at 8 p.m.
The Cancer Support Pro-gram
which offers individ-ual
and family counseling
and group support pro-grams,
is funded at Penin-sula
Counseling Center by
the Nassau County De-partment
of Mental Health.

To improve the services
offered by our Village Clerk
and Assessor's Offices, the
Village of Lynbrook con-tinues
to lead the way by
installing a second new state
of the art Data General
Computer System, which
b e c a m e o p e r a t i o n a l in
February.
This new system joins the
recently obtained Police
Department System, which
went on line in January.
Residents will be able to
receive quicker and more
u p - t o - d a t e i n f o r m a t i on
regarding their property,
taxes, licensing and other
municipal related functions.
The functions to be incor-porated
within the new sys-tem
will be general ledger,
budget preparation and con-t
r o l , revenue c o n t r o l,
encumbrance accounting,
disbursements, payroll sys-t
e m , all g o v e r n m e n t al
reports, assessment and tax
rolls.
Village Hall employees
are now in trainingand hope
to have this system fully
operational by September,
1986.
