Preserving the Work
Of
As wori(ers of the
D e p a r t m e n t of Public
Works carefully replanted
the Grist Mill Museum in
September, it might be well
to remember those who
brought it into being.
The incorporators of the
Historical Society, who
saved the building from the
destructive wheels of a
bulldozer and brought it to
rest in Memorial Park, were:
Mayor Charles M. Krull,
Charles Davison, Lillian
Davison, Grace Rhame, and
Eugene Torborg. The first
Board of Trustees included
W. Wesley Hill and Douglas
Wilke in addition to the
above-mentioned names.
Later the village govern-ment
became responsible for
the Museum and appointed
a committee to run it. This
group has faithfully tried to
maintain the standards laid
out by their "forefathers/'
Incidently, those who
took part in the Huckle-befry
Frolic provided funds
for the paint used during the
recent face lift.

of assessed valuation for the •
1984-85 school year gives
the East Ropckaway school
district the highest school
tax rate in Nassau County,
according to figures released
by Nassau County Assessor
Abe Seldin. The Lynbrook
district, with a tax rate of
$25,938 per hundred, ranks
twelfth of the 62 districts.
The increase of $3.68 per
hundred of East Rock-away's
school tax represents
an increase of 12.68% and
moved>%East Rockaway to
the Top spot in Nassau
County, up from 6th place
last year. Lynbrook's more
modest increase of $1.59 per
hundred moved that district
up four notches from I6th

Seagull
Classic
Run
On Sunday, October 14,
the "Seagull Classic" 5K-Run
will be held in East
Rockaway. We hope the day
will be enjoyable for eve-ryone:
the runners, the spec-t
a t o r s and the whole
community.
In order to have the event
run safely and conveniently,
we have provided a map of
the route the runners will
take.
The race starts at 9:30AM
in Bay Park and the last
runner should finish by
10:30AM. The area included
in the map should be closed
to traffic until the last
runner has passed. As a
safety measure for runners
and spectators, it would be
appreciated if cars were
parked off the street and
dogs kept under close
supervision.
It promises to be a great
day for East Rockaway. It
has taken the cooperation of
the County, Town, Village
and the residents of East
Rockaway to make this
event a success. It is hoped
that no one is incovenienced
and everyone's cooperation
is appreciated.

County this year, being
second only to Carle Place's
$4.55 jump. In percentage
terms, East Rockaway's
increase of 12.68% repre-sents
the third highest
increase. In Lynbrook, the
$1.59 increase was the
