Carol Burris
Seeks Election
East Rockaway: Pi?lrs.
Carol Burris announces her
candidacy tor election to the
seat of Trustee of the East
Rockaway School District
Board of Education. She
recently served as chairman
of the Citizens Advisory
Committee for Renovation.
Mrs. Burris says, "I'm
very proud to have been part
of the team which put
together and promoted the
successful school renovation
referendum. Let's continue
to move forward in our dis-trict.
I believe that our
school board must provide
our children with quality
education, and must be
more responsive to the
community it serves."
She cites the following as
m a j o r i s s u e s to be
addressed.
• Develop a resonsible
m a i n t e n a n c e p r o -
gram.

Oppose Kremer
Brian Meyer
Brian Meyer of East
Rockaway has been named
by the Nassau County
R e p u b l i c a n Executive
Committee as the Republi-can
candidate lor the 20th
Assembly District seat cur-rently
held by Arthur
"Jerry" Kremer of Long
Beach.
Meyer, a decorated vete-ran
of the Vietnam conflict,
is currently a deputy Nassau
County Attorney. Wounded
during a three-year tour of
duty with the U.S. Army in
Vietnam, where Meyer was
awarded the purple heart.
Meyer returned home and
attended New York Law
School where he received his
J.D, He received his B.A. at
St. John's University.
Michael Rancanelli Announces His Candidacy
For East Rockav/ay Board of Education
• Review district staff
and administrative person-nel
yearly.
• Provide taxpayer relief
through energy savings and
N.Y. State rebates gained by
renovation.
• Develop a comprehen-sive
computer curriculum,
using Grant purchased
microcomputers.
Besides chairing the Citi-zens
Advisory Committee,
Carol regularly attends
School Board meetings; is a
senior at Hofstra University,
m a j o r i n g in c o m p u t er
science; is a member of the
Rhame Avenue PTA; and
has been active in Brownie
troop 2092. Carol and her
husband, Jess, have three
children. Their school aged
daughter attends Rhame
Avenue School.
Election Day is June 12,
1984.
Michael J. Racanelli, a
resident of the East Rocka-way
School District has
announced his candidacy
for the June 12 School
Board election. Mike and
his wife, Paulette, have two
children Peter and Jennifer
who attend E.R.H.S. and
Centre Avenue Elementary.
As a three year resident
Mr. Racanelli has been an
active participant in the East
Rockaway Community. He
was selected chairperson of
Concerned Active Residents
of East Rockaway-
(C.A.R.E.R.) subcommit-tee
on Alternative Programs
for Youth, and has been a
supporter of the East Rock-away
Raiders Organization
and P.B.C. He has been an
avid supporter of the current
Renovation Bond issue and
has worked collectively with
many other active residents
f or its passage.
Michael attended high
school at Cathedral College
of the Immaculate Concep-

BOARD SEATS
Seven East Rockaway
residents have filed peti-tions
to run for the four
open positions on the East
R o c k a w a y Board of
Education.
The following will appear
on the ballot on Tuesday,
June 12: Elaine Ball, John
Van Houten, William Cus-ick,
Michael Racanelli,
Carol Burris, William Ver-wys,
and Mary Jane
Brezenoff.
Two candidates will be
elected to three year terms
caused by the expiration of
the terms of Dolores Mag-gio
and Al Kachinoski; one
will fill the position left open
by the resignation of Rose
Marie Brande, to expire in
1986; and one will fill the
position created by the
resignation of Barry Akron-gold
whose term will expire
in 1985.
Meyer, a native of Rock-v
i l l e C e n t r e , c u r r e n t ly
resides with his wife Millie
and their two sons, Michael
and Jonathon, in East
Rockaway. A long time
community activist, Meyer
is a member of the New
York State and Nassau
County Bar Associations; he
is a member of the East
Rockaway Cultural Arts
Council, the Leukemia
Society of America (Long
Island Chapter) and the
American Irish Congress.
He also has served as legisla-tive
advisor to the Long
Island Chapter of the
Retired Officers Association
of America.
In accepting the designa-tion
of the Republican
Party, Meyer stated "It is my
lirm belief that the people of
this Assembly District are
looking for a new type of
representation. They are
looking for an Assembly-man
who will go to Albany
fighting for their interests
and their interests alone.
The people of the Five
Towns, Long Beach, Ocean-side
and East Rockaway
have for too long had an
Assemblyman whose prim-ary
concerns have been
those of New York City and
New York City politicians.

people of Saint Raymond's
Parish in East Rockaway.
The Communities of East
Rockaway and Lynbrook
have truly been Blessed since
July 1909 when the Parish of
Saint Raymond of Penya-fort
was established in our
local area. May the luture
and the next 75 years be as
good as the past 75 years.

Pace University. Mr. Raca-nelli
is no stranger to the
field of education. He
started his professional
career in 1968 as a teacher ^
emotionally handicapped
s t u d e n t s . His present
assignment is that of Assist-ant
Director of Work Expe-rience
and Training Pro-grams
with the New York
City Public Schools.
Mr. Racanelli has a great
deal to offer the East Rock-away
School District. He
has an ability to work with
individuals with divergent
views towards a common
goal. He is staunch suppor-ter
of Public Education and
is an advocate for Excel-lence.
On April 11, 1984 the
Council of Supervisors and
Administrators, AFL-CIO
presented Mike with their
annual Professional Excel-lence
Award for his accomp-lishments
in occupational
training on a national level.
When asked what was his
most pressing concern for
East Rockaway he responded,
"I am concerned that the
progress that I've seen over
the past three years con-tinue.
1 intend to work very
hard in order to provide the
best education for all the
children in the East Rocka-way
school district. Furth-ermore,
I am a team player
and my goal is to work col-lectively
with President
Meagher and the new board
in accentuating every posi-tive
aspect of our district."

of the Sean Henshaw Div-ision
No. 5 of the Ancient
order of Hibernians will
meet at 11:00 AM on Sun-day,
June 3, 1984 to place a
wreath and flowers at the
Irish monument in the ceme-tery_
at Merrick Road and
Ocean Avenue in Lynbrook.
We invite all to join with us
in remembering those who
have passed on to their eter-nal
reward.

hold its annual Installation
of Officers and presentation
of Award Scholarships to
three graduating seniors.
The brand new Eleanor
Perri Scholarship will be
awarded f or the first time, in
which "determination" as
well as achievement is one of
the key factors considered.
The regular business will
be discussed, and Bob Jac-oby.
Coordinator for Spe-cial
Services in East Rocka-way,
will install the new
officers.
SEPTA extends a warm
and cordial invitation to alt
members and friends to
attend this most satisfying

meetings. The event will
take place in East Rockaway
