Cancer Society will hold its
exciting 8th Annual WINE &
CHEESE PARTY on Sunday,
March 13th, from 3:30 to 7
p.m. at the Lynbrook Elks Club
on Hempstead Ave. in Lyn-brook,
In addition to the refresh-ments,
there will be dancing and
entertainment, all for a donation
of only $5 per person.

Lynbrook VFW Post 2307 recently presented Citations to Ken Jackson and Jack Ginterino, Managers of
the Lynbrook Theatre, in recognition of their help in promoting the Buddy Poppy Drive. Joining in the

42 REGENTS WINNERS
An unprecedented 15 Lyn-brook
High School students have
received National Merit Letters
of Commendation for the 1982-
83 school year. Seniors Ronni
Goldberg, Andrew Hirsh and
Richard Lerner have been named
Merit Scholarship finalists, cate-gorizing
them in the top half of
one percent in the country.
Designated for commendation
are Kenneth Backman, Lawrence
Hansen, Jonathan Hirschman,
Steven Laube, Jennifer Maisel,
Paul Morena, Mark Rubin,
Jeremy Silberman, Lawrence
Silvermintz, Andrew Singer,
Robyn Smith and Veronica
Sympson. In the graduating class
of 284, 42 Regents Scholar-ships
have also been awarded
(see list elsewhere).
Ronni Goldberg, the daugh-ter
of Edward and Roberta
high school and college level,"
He added that Hirsh, who is
Goldberg of East Rockaway, has
attended the Lynbrook schools
since kindergarten, skipping the
third grade. She participated in
AP courses in English, .history,
psychology and Frnench, is an
editor of the school newspaper,
Horizon; a member of the
French Club, Forensics and
the Key Club. She was also
president of the American Field
Service for two years. According
to John Bottjer, chairman of the
Science Dept., Miss Goldberg re-ceived
biology scores of 98 on
the New York State Regents
examination and 710 on the
Achievement Test. At press
time, she was undecided as to
what college she would attend.
Andrew Hirsh, the son of
Lester and Elaine Hirsh of Lyn-brook,
has received early ad-mission
to Harvard University,
which is not binding. Dr. John
Byrer, chairman of the Guid-ance
Dept., says, "Andrew is one
of the best all-around students I
have encountered in my 20-
year career as a teacher, coun-selor
and administrator at the
"strong" in the sciences would
"probably pursue a pre-med
curriculum." Hirsh is a member
of the National Honor Society,
has achieved regional ranking as
a tennis player, and received the
National Council of Teachers
Writing Award. He is also an
independent computer "expert,"
utilizing the machine with in-genuity
and originality.
Richard Lerner, son of John
and Nancy Lerner of Hewlett,
has received early admission to
Dartmouth, where he wUl pursue
a career in economics. A rifle
team captain, Lerner is active in
school theatre productions, both
on stage and backstage, a
Horizon edttor, a member of the
cross-country team, forensics
and computer tutoring program.
Math Instructor Louis Prevet
calls the young man, "a credit to
himself and to the school.
Richard has set up a monitor-ing
system to govern the work-ings
of the room and I am proud
to say that I have yet to have
any problems with any of the
