E. R. BOARD OF ED
MEETING*S COMING UP
The East Rockaway Board
of Education will meet at 7:30
p.m. Monday, Feb. 28th, in
order to discuss the early child-hood
program.
The Board has also sched-uled
Wednesday, March 2nd;
Monday, March 7th; and Wed-nesday,
March 9th; all at 7:30
p.m, in the high school, as
budget work sessions. The public
is both invited and encouraged
to attend.
In addition, the agenda work
session has been scheduled for
Monday, March 14th, at 7:30
p.m. The regular open meeting
will be Monday, March 21st, at
8 p.m. Both meetings are
scheduled for the high school.
The Lynbrook Board of Edu-cation
held its regular monthly
meeting on February 7th.
Superintendent Bern Seider-man's
Report covered Music
Festivals, Lunchroom Advisory
Committee, the Governor's
School Aid proposal, and the
Request by Parents for an Ex-tended
Day Kindergarten.
Dr. Seiderman noted that the
District had 47 students at the
elementary level, 29 students on
the junior high level and 19
students on the high school level
chosen to appear at all-county
music festiv^s. He singled out
Sharon Heth, first horn, and
Peggy Schein, first flute, saying
it is unusual for two studnets
from a single high school to have
the honor of being first chairs.
The Superintendent noted
that. a PTA school lunch com-mittee
is being formed, headed
by Mrs. Ellen Flowers. In re-gard
to State Aid, Dr. Seider-man
advised that under the
Governor's proposal, Lynbrook
would lose approximately
$46,000, and he recommended
writing to state officials urging
reconsideration.
In regard to the request for
Extended Day Kindergarten Pro-grams,
the Superintendent made
an extensive report, recommend-ing
that such a program not be
instituted during the 1983-84
school year (the full report by
Superintendent Seiderman will
be published next week).
A Buildings & Grounds
Quarterly Report was submitted
by Assistant Superintendent
Louis Pearsall. The only major
discussion resulting from a ques-tion
from the floor had to do
with fingerprinting children as is
now being done in New Jersey.
A matter which will be looked
into.
The Board took action as
follows: I) Diane Sinatra, busi-ness
teacher, granted a child care
leave; 2) Elinor O'Brien ap-pointed
long term substitute, re-placing
Diane Sinatra; 3) Jill
DeRoy appointed to third year
of probation; 4)Lillian Reed ap-pointed
Clerk-Typist; 5) approv-ed
Election Notice; 6) John
Small and Mary Parrish appoint-ed
check countersigners for
Teen Center.
