ESSAY WINNERS - Lynbrook Fire Chief Kevin Michaud (2nd from right) presents certificates to the
winners of the Memorial Day Essay Contest sponsored by the Lynbrook Fire Dept. Fire Prevention
Bureau. This year's essay topic was "How Can I Prevent Fire in the Home." Winners included (1-r) Brian
Peterson (West End), Harold Levey (Waverly Park), Annmarie O'Connor (OLP), and Jennifer Cangialosi
(Marion Street). The winners also received a $25 check from John Cornicello (r), Chairman of the Fire

June 18th, at East Rocka-way's
Annual Huckleberry
Frolic in Memorial Park, East
Rockaway Mayor Ted Reinhard
and Lynbrook Mayor Bill Geier
will be making a big splash as
they participate in the DUNK
TANK water arena. St. Ray-mond's
Knihts of Columbus and
their Squires will be running this
very popular sport and are
looking for volunteers.
Everyone is invited for a
cool dip.
FLAG DAY SERVICE
Lynbrook Elks Lodge 1515
will conduct its Annual Flag Day
Service on Tuesday, June 14th,
at 8 p.m. in the Lodge Hall, 57
Hempstead Ave., Lynbrook. The
public is invited and refresh-ments
will be available.
ALCOHOL AWARENESS
Tempo Group and the East
Rockaway Youth Service Center
will be presenting a unique pro-gram
for adolescents and adults
of East Rockaway during the
week of June 13-18. Entitled
"The 5-A Challenge;" the pro-gram
is being offered free of
charge to all residents. It is an
educational, intervention and re-ferral
project and is designed to
help individuals, famiUes and the
community become more aware
with regard to alcohol use and
abuse. Experts in the field of
alcohol and substance abuse will
be available to answer questions,
present material on alcohol and
alcoholism, make assessments
and evaluations, and refer to ap-

GOOD GOVERNMENT PARTY INSTALLS/INVITES - At the recent meeting of the Good Government
Party of Lynbrook elected officers of the Party were sworn into office. Lynbrook Mayor William P.
Geier (r), who ran on the Good Government Party line in Lynbrook's March election, is shown con-gratulating
President Kenneth Hughes. Looking on are (r-l) Vice-president Ray Mathie, Secretary Mary
Ann Huglies, Financial Secretary Jane Grogan, and Treasurer Michael Foley. The membership committee
of the Good Government Party has also armounced that all residents are invited to attend and join the
Good Government Party at a meeting to be held on Wednesday, June 15th, at 8 p.m. at the American
Legion Hall, 134 Union Ave., Lynbrook. Mayor William Geier will be guest speaker.
As is their yearly custom, members of the Sean Henshaw Div. of the
Ancient Order of Hibernians held a short Memorial Service at the
Monument in Rockville Cemetery erected for the many Irish men,
women and children who lost their lives in two shipwrecks off the
