Hearing, presenting the tentative budget fo^he^vyear
A/
6- Organization Night In E.R.
On
Public
1983/84.
Mayor William Geier went through the proposed budgk, summar-izing
the important features and changes. One important item was
that the Mayor and Trustees have agreed to keep their salaries at the
present levels, not increasing them as proposed in the tentative
budget. The Mayor made many comparisons in costs, citing per-centages
and inflationary items.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the big announcement was that
despite mandated increases, inflation, etc., the tax rate for 1983/84
would remain at $2,48/$ 100 of assessed valuation.
The final budget will be approved at the April 18th meeting.

LFD CLEARS BANK
The Flood light Unit of the
Lynbrook Fire Dept. was called
to an unusual occurrence at the
European-American Bank at
Merrick Road and Broadway on
the afternoon of Tuesday, April
6th.
The Unit, upon arrival at th
Bank, which had already closed
to customers, found the bank
filled with tear gas. It was re-ported
that a teller, while mov-ing
monies to the bank vault,
has passed near the exit door
setting off the tear gas cart-ridge
contained in a security
bundle used by tellers in case of
a robbery.
The firemen, who found
many bleary and running eyes at
the scene, placed smoke ejectors
in the doors and ventilated the
building. After approximately
45 minutes, the tear gas had
dissipated and the firemen were
released. (STEVE GROGAN)
