"VALENTINES FOR VETERANS
More than 20,000 Valentines handmade by students across the County for
hospitalized veterans, have been collected as part of the "Valentines for
Veterans" program.
A coordinated effort between Nassau County and local elementary
schools, the annual "Valentines for Veterans" program is part of National
Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. Each February, Nassau County school
children open their hearts by sending homemade cards and letters to veterans
living at in hospitals nursing homes. School teachers can also use the week to
educate students about the importance of honoring the service of our nation's
veterans.
"The Valentines for Veterans program has always been a rewarding expe-rience
for both those giving and receiving. 1 thank all of the students who par-ticipated
this year for their creative cards and letters, all of which will bring
cheer to our veterans who are most in need," said County Executive
Mangano. "In this small way, we are letting our veterans know that they and
