Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today traveled to West Hempstead,
Nassau County, to sign a new law that will reduce the MTA payroll tax,
providing relief for more than 290,000 small businesses and more than
410,000 self-employed New Yorkers. The tax reduction is part of the
Governor's comprehensive plan, passed by the legislature last week, to
create jobs and cut taxes for middle class New Yorkers, and revitalize the
state's economy.
"Small businesses are New York's growth engine and this tax reduc-tion
will help create jobs and get our state's economy back on track with-out
jeopardizing funding for the MTA," Governor Cuomo said. "I thank the
leadership as well as the members of the legislature for their dedication in
seeing the MTA tax reduced and working to get our economy moving
again." .
On December 7, the state legislature passed the Governor's Middle
Class Tax Cut and Job Creation legislation that reduces the MTA payroll
tax on small businesses while maintaining the necessary funding for the
MTA from other sources. The tax will be eliminated for 289,000 small
businesses, defined as those having an annual payroll between $10,000
and $1.25 million, in the MTA region. Additionally, more than 6,000 busi-nesses
with payrolls between $1.25 and $1.75 million will see their payroll
tax cut by either one third or two-thirds. The MTA payroll tax cut will also
benefit approximately 414,000 self-employed taxpayers. All elementary
and secondary schools, public or private, are exempt from the payroll tax
under the new law. The new law has no impact on MTA funding as the
state will compensate the MTA for all revenue lost by the tax cut.

The True Meaning of the Holiday
Seasson: Giving to Others
Yes, it's that time of year again! The time of year when Otto Lipp,
an Apollo resident and Korean War Veteran delivers a large assort-ment
ofMwKlcrafted items to the Northport'Veteran's hospital;
Jo Ryan, Chairperson of Crafts at Apollo, thanks the residents
and the St. Martin of Tours Young at Heart ladies for their donations
of yarn. The women crocheted and knitted headbands, hats,
scarves, along with beautiful lap throws.
Our Veterans were overjoyed to receive the gifts. Holidays are for
giving and these ladies made the holidays so much brighter for our
service people.
Never Too Late to Give to Those
Less Fortunate in Bethpage
Even though the 24th Annual Bretton's Bowl was held last
Sunday, it is never too late to donate to this wonderful cause. For
those who are not aware the Bethpage Community Foundation,
hosts the Annual Bretton's Bowl to raise funds to help those in our
own hometown. As I am sure most would imagine, this is a very dif-ficult
year for so many people.
While the game was a huge success, complete with an amazing
rendition of the National Anthem by Madison Buttice and a five star
performance by the Olden Girls (complete story next week) there is
still time to send in your donation to help your fellow residents.
Please fill out the information below to send in your donation.
Bethpage is a town with a great big heart and we have proven
that year after year by helping our neighbors and friends. The
Bethpage Community Foundation thanks everyone for their support
and help. Hap^y holidays to all!
