Tuesday, November 15, 2011
At the Bethpage School District Board of Education meeting held on
Tuesday, September 27, the Board of Education approved a proposition to
be submitted to the voters at a District's Special Election, which will be held
on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. in the high
school gymnasium. These projects, if approved, will be New York State
Education Department aidable up to $0.39 (39%) on each dollar approved.
This proposition, if approved, will not result in an increase to the tax levy.
The proposition would authorize the District to expend $2,193,502 out
of the District Capital Reserve Fund, which was established, by voter
approval, on May 20, 2008 for the purpose of:
• Reconstruction of locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms at Bethpage
High School
• Replacement of heat generating system at Central Boulevard School:
new boilers, new hot water heater
and storage tank
• Removal and replacement of transjte asbestos ceiling panels at JFK
Middle School
• HVAC work District-wide
• Installation of wrestling room ventilation at Bethpage High School
• Security improvements District-wide; security infrastructure and door
access
• Replacement of existing generator at Bethpage High School
• Replacement of existing hardware on doors with push/pull mechanisms;
installation of magnetic hold-open devices on assembly room doors
District-wide

Four Bethpage High School seniors have earned honors in the
2012 National Merit Scholarship Program, a competition presented
by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). National
Merit Semifinalists Chelsea Levy and Dan Zirkel and National
Merit Commended Students Patrick Cao and Holly Josephs
earned their respective recognitions as a result of their impressive
2010 Preliminary State Assessment Test (PSAT) scores.
As Semifinalists, Chelsea and Dan are two of the highest-scor-ing
entrants in New York State. Their status makes them eligible to
be considered for Finalist standing, with the prospect of earning
one of three types of Merit Scholarship awards. Holly and Patrick
received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstand-ing
academic promise, and they can also apply for Special
Scholarships through the NMSC.
Congratulations to all four students for their academic achieve-ments
that have resulted in recognition from this competitive aca-demic
scholarship program.
