Plainedge Superintendent, Christine P'Simer
Honored as Woman of Distinction

In recognition of her accomplishments and commitment to the
Plainedge SchooJ Districtihroughout her 26-year tenure in the District,-
Plainedge Superintendent of Schools Christine P'Simer has been named
a New York State Senate 2011 Woman of Distinction. Ms. P'Simer was
nominated for this honor by State Senator Kemp Hannon who joined her
on the floor of the State Capitol during a special "Women of Distinction"
ceremony in late May. "Ms. P'Simer truly embodies what it means to be
a Woman of Distinction," Senator Hannon noted In the award journal.
"She has devoted her career to encouraging and inspiring the children of
Plainedge to continue learning and, in turn, has made her community a
better place to live."
A public school educator for 36 years, Ms. P'Simer began her career
in New Jersey as a middle school mathematics teacher and moved to
New York in 1980. She was appointed a math and computer science
teacher in Plainedge Public Schools in 1985. Following her appointment,
Ms. P'Simer become the Plainedge Director of Staff-' Development, then
Principal of Plainedge Middle School, followed by Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She was appointed to
the esteemed position of Superintendent in 2007. In this position, Ms.
P'Simer strived to promote positive relationships among Plainedge
Board of Education members, teachers, parents, administrators, stu-dents,
and the community. Her achievements include overseeing the cre-ation
of an academic program that allows students to challenge them-selves
at all levels while embracing a philosophy that encourages them
to seek and reach their own potential. As a champion of technology who
understands how today's students embrace it, she has supported inno-vative
uses of technology in the classroom. She played an instrumental
role in developing the Plainedge teacher evaluation system, which
ensures teacher accountability while encouraging high levels of profes-sional
development.
"It is truly an honor to receive this award from the New York State
Senate," Ms. P'Simer stated. "The nomination from Senator Hannon
was a wonderful surprise and I am very moved by this recognition."
Launched in 1998, the Women of Distinction program was created to
celebrate the rich heritage of notable women from New York's past, as
well as to honor outstanding women today who have followed their
example.

Congratulations to the Bethpage PAL Track Team on their impressive
performance at the Nassau County Championship Meet, which was
held at Calhoun High School in Merrick on June 18. From the happy
smiles and multitude of medals, it is easy to see just how well they all
did! Congrats to the entire team and fabulous coaching staff!
