LIFEGUARDS HONORED
FOR SAVING THE LIFE OF RESIDENT
IN CARDIAC ARREST
Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recently honored four lifeguards
from the Nassau County Aquatic Center after they saved the life of a resident
who went into cardiac arrest in the Fitness Center.
The four lifeguards, Ryan Castles of Plainview, Brian Gilmartin of Wantagh,
Neal Rubin of Plainview, and Steven Turkovich of Levittown, used an external
defibrillator and started CPR until the East Meadow Fire Department arrived.
The man was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and is expected to
make a full recovery.
"Steven, Brian, Neal, and Ryan are true heroes," said County Executive
Mangano. "Their quick-thinking saved a man's life and prevented a tragedy,
and I thank them for their extraordinary efforts."
Bethpage Wins Best Tasting Water in Nassau County
The Bethpage Water District has been voted to have the best tasting water
in Nassau County by those who cast their ballots in the Long Island Water
Conference's 26th annual Best-Tasting Water Contest.
From May 2 through May 5, the Long Isiand Water Conference invited resi-dents
of Long Island to Farmingdale State College where they were asked to
participate in a blind taste test of tap water from dozens of suppliers across the
island. On Thursday, May 6, Bethpage was selected by Long Islanders as hav-ing
the best tasting water in Nassau County. An inter-county taste-off next
month against Dix Hills Water District will determine which district has the best-tasting
water on Long Island.
"I would like to congratulate the Bethpage Water District on this well-deserved
achievement of having Nassau County's best-tasting water, and
thank all the residents who came out and voted" said Water Conference
Chairman Karl Schweitzer. "We like to celebrate National Drinking Water Week
with this contest because it gives residents a chance to sample all of the great
tasting water throughout Long Island, not just in their town. It also stresses the
importance to preserve and protect the cleanliness and abundance of this
essential resource."
