The principals in all schools in this locality have issued this
advice to parents.
Mothers or fathers are requested not to interfere with any plans
made for their children in school. These plans have been thoughtfully
worked out with every precaution taken. The Police Department and
the Board of Education have been instructed to notify the schools
immediately in time of danger.
The dismissal procedure is un-der
the jurisdiction of the local
school authorities. Plans have
been made for home escort drills.
Under such drills the children
wiU be escorted directly to their
homes.
Safety drills are also under
.way. These drills are for the
purpose of keeping the children
in the school buildings in time
of an emergency. Under such
conditions the children will be
assembled in places away from
wiiidows.
Weldon E. Howitt, principal of
the Parmingdale High School,
where many Bethpage pupils at-tend,
stated that the school had
been. completely evacuated in
twenty-three minutes during the
trial evacuation. Additional pre-cautions
are being taken lunch
hovu-s. All pupils must obey the
directions of the air raid warden
in charge. Pamphlets have been
prepared for the parents econ-taining
full information regard-ing
school and home precautions.
Parents are urged not to come
to the school during an air raid,
also don't phone the school in
an air raid as telephone calls are
likely to clog the switchboards
and vitally important communi-cations
to the school may not
be able to get through.
It is emphasized that children
in schools are as well protected
from bombing as tlaey would be
in their own homes.
Sherman Appeals,

Workers

for women now in progress at
Adelphi College and a technical
class in radio for both men and
women meeting here every Mon-day
evening. A new class in code
will begin on January 9, but this
has already been filled.
"To meet the demand an-ange-ments

Season's Greetings To Grumman
Aircraft Corp. And Its Employees
"Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year"
Of course, that is my heartfelt wish for you and yours at this
Holiday season. But sincere as that wish is, I just want to add a
few more words to tell you of the pleasure that has come to me
throughout all of 1941 in my association with you, and other fine
people like you.
To serve a good company such as yours brings a reward of
happiness, not only in the service which it is my privilege to
extend to you in business, but in the bonds of fellowship and
friendship which transcend the regular course of business. I express
my gratitude for the many courtesies and kindnesses which have
come from you, and the new year will be all the happier if I can
serve you further.
And so may this Christmas be the most enjoyable you have ever
had. Although there is darkness about us, men of good will will
seek the light—will find the better way. May this be accomplished
in the new year, making it the happiest new year of all for
mankind.
Cordially,
