Vamps and Grumman Men. To Clash In Comedy Game
"A cavalcade of fun and side-splitting
laughter will thunder
into Bethpage on August 26th at
8:30 P. M." said Harold Looney,
member of the Bethpage fire de-partment,
in reference to the
burro ball game scheduled be-tween
a Grumman shop team
and the local vamps. The event
will be held at Bethpage Ball
Field on Stewart Avenue and the
Railroad trenches. The Dodge
City Burro Ball Company will
trot a herd of "action-packed
little burros onto the field to be
ridden by outstanding men of
this town and the two Grumman
plants," said Looney. The game
will be Softball.
Looney continued, "Burros that
buck, burros that toss their
riders and lie down in the base
paths and burros that do 'wrong-way
Corrigans' when a homer is
hit will be the mounts of the
local riders in a wildly hilarious
game which will be played under

Romscho in honor of his twenty-five
years of service as member
and chairman of the Board of

Boardwalk Cafe, Jones Beach, on
August 11.

Red Cross Offers
First Aid Course
The Nassau County Chapter,
American Red Cross will offer
a First Aid Course to be held
at the Municipal Hall, Jericho
Turnpike, Mineola, Thursday
afternoons from 2 to 4 beginning
August 14.
The course consists of tewenty
hours of instruction and covers
all emergency work included in
modern First Aid. Attention will
be given to methods handling
severe bleeding, burns, artificial
respiration, shock, bandaging,
fractures and transportation of
the injured. A nominal fee covers
cost of textbook and materials.

De Fanis Takes Title
To Printing Premises
Mr. William DeFanis, propri-etor
of the Bethpage Press px'int
shop on Broadway, Bethpage, re-cently
took title to the premises
of the shop. The transaction was
completed on Friday, August 8.
DeFanis is a commissioner of
the Bethpage Fjre Department
and a member of the Hicksville
Kiwanis club.

of Farmingdale. Miss
Jorgenson, daughter of Mrs. John
Jorgenson, will become the bride
of Mr. Charles Kasper of Beth-page,
August 24th.
Miss Jorgensen isa graduate of
Farmingdale High School and a
former resident of Bethpage. Mr.
Kasper is employed by Republic
Aircraft Corporation of Fai'ming-dale.

Lowest Tax Rate
In Thirty Years
$37,946.19 Needed in Taxes,
Cava and Amendola Repori*
"The citizens of Bethpage are this year receiving the
benefits of the lowest tax rate in 30 years," according to
Carmine Cava and Raymond J. Amendola, members of the
finance committee of the Bethpage school district.
Sum Reduced by $6,000
The assessed valuation for the local district, which is
district number twenty-one, is $6,455,495.00. The funds
which would usually have to be raised by taxation amount
to $43,946.19, but due to the unexpended moneys on hand
totalling $6,000.00, the sum which Ladies' Auxiliary

A women's auxiliary of the
Bethpage Fire Department was
organized on Tuesday evening,
August 5, at the firehouse, with
over twenty women in attend-ance.
It vvas resolved that the
charter lists would remain open
for another month, so probably
many more women will wish to
become charter members who
were unable to attend the first
meeting.

Miss Katherine Seitz was
elected temporary chairman and
conducted the meeting until the
following officers wei"e elected:
president, Mrs. Hans Benkert;
vice- president, Mrs. George

29 Cents Lower Than 1940
The report submitted by
Amendola and Cava stated that
the tax rate for the coming year
will total fifty-nine cents on the
dollar, a rate twenty-nine cents
lower than those of previous
years. In 1940 the tax rate was
eighty-eight cents on the dollar,
while in 1939 it totalled only
eighty-two cents on the dollar.
$30 Saving
The budget for the year cover-ing
the raising of $37,946.19 by
taxation represents a net saving
of approximately $30.00 on an
assessed valuation of $5,000.00.
After detailed research and
computation, this report vvas sub-mitted
to the Board of Education
by trustees Cava and Amendola.

BELSCHA AND NORMAN
TO ATTEND CONVENTION
Mr. and !\Irs. Harry Belscha
of Stewart Avenue left Satur-day
morning for a vacation trip
through Canada. They will then
journey to Rochester to attend
the annual State Convention of
the American Legion. Mr. Bel-scha
is commandant of the
Archie McCord Post of the
American Legion of Bethpage.
"Happy" Norman, also of
Stewart Avenue left Tuesday
evening to attend the convention
as a delegate.
Members of Company Number
2 of the Bethpage Fire Depart-ment
held their beach party at
Tobay Beach last Sunday. The
outing was much the same as
that held by Company Number
1, but the party included more
people.
