Another summer on the water
BiyiS nicikes a photo quilt
This past school year, Baldwin Middle School students in Fran Manas's Family and Consumer Science class mastered new technology, learned valuable sewing skills and worked as a team in creating a photo quilt that is now hanging in the commons. Through a gratit from the Baldwin Teacher Center entitled "The Faces of Baldwin Middle School: A Photo Quilt," the students used batik fabrics in a rainbow of colors and patterns and incorporated almost 100 photos with over 500 students pictured.
Through the course of the year, the quilt kept growing and growing as students returned to class after school to photograph, edit, print, design, cut and sew. Student Alison Balchi thought the project was fun and relaxing and says she will utilize the skills she learned one day working in the fashion industry. Says Mrs.Maiias,;"! had the opportunity to work, with motivated.xre-atiye and-enthusiastic students in and outside of the classroom enviforim'erit. i liave enjoyed the opportunity to connect with some really special students and see their joy of learning."
