SPLASH: Debris trap stolen
by Rob Weltner Operation SPLASH
A section of our Mill Creek Debris Trap was stolen last weekend and we'd like your help in getting it back.
The trap is a number of floating docks secured together at the mouth of the stormwater pipes,- at the south side of the Freeport Rec Center parking lot. Operation SPLASH installed this debris trap, we maintain it, and we empty it. It has trapped over 800 barrets of trash, plastic bottles, styro-foam and debris over just the last four years. This debris would otherwise enter Freeport Creek and the surrounding areas.
Sometime last weekend a 20-foot slightly used floating dock section was stolen. It has been reported that three men were seen in a blue-and-white cyddy cabin towing the section away. This is a large section of floating dock - measuring 20 feet long and 10 feet wide. If someone in your area just got a slightly used big dock, please call us.
As" you spend time on the water this weekend, please keep an eye out for our dock. If you see something please say something, by calling 378-4770. Your information will be kept confidential.

Baldwin's relay for life
As a springboard for the Relay for Life at Baldwin High School, Plaza School held a mini relay event on June 8 with the entire school participating. Staff, students and families walked the perimeter of the field in memory of loved ones who lost their battle to cancer and to support those who survived.
Plaza School staff and students conunemorated each day leading up to the mini relay with different activities. They wore sneakers to Kick Cancer to the Curb, sunglasses to Shade Out Cancer, hats for Hats Off to Being Smoke Free, and a variety of colors to support research for different types of cancers at the Rainbow Relay.
Students also crafted sun bead bracelets that they sold for $2, signed up sponsors for $1 each, and held a bake sale. In all. Plaza raised over $8,000 for the American Cancer Society from this schoolwide effort.
