Nautkal Festival crowds break records
Great weather brought out thousands of visitors to Freepdrt's annual two-day Nautical Mile Festival last weekend. Residents and visitors crowded Woodcleft. Avenue, which was closed to.traffic to accommodate" the hundreds of booths and sidewalk 'diiiing arrange-, ments set up ail along the Nautical Mile.
There were clowns, cartoon ; characters; carnival rides, ganies and specialty foods for the.youiigsters along with arts-and crafts booths, nautical gift shops, and musical entertainment as well as lots of restaurants
offering everyone's favorite seafood dishes for the . adults. . '• • ' • •
Mayor Andrew Hardwick officiated'at his fijst ribbon-cutting ceremony as mayor, opening the event at noon on Saturday, June 6. The festjvalgoers' quickly, filled the street, enjoying the sunshine as well as the various attractions offered. Mayor Hardwick walked the entire Naiitical Mile from the top at Froiit Street, shaking hands and stopping along the way to say hello .and welcome people to the Festival. •..' -. ..^ '•
The Nautiffal Mile was also the setting for the wedding of Anastasia Nkechi Igboba to Bond Ebere Oji on Saturday, June'6. Mayor Hardwick was on hand to preside over the wedding The happy couple was thrilled to' celebrate their wedding overlooking Freepbrt Bay.-
Ohce again, the festival was a major success, bringing thousands of residents, visitors and.old friends to Freeport's waterfront; This year, the village has added a transient marina'and a dockmaster's quarters just to the west of the Scenic Pier. • ,
